What can we learn about human nature from the book Night? Human nature is the general psychological characteristics, feelings, and qualities of humankind which determines human behavior and motivation. We can learn that there is a lot of examples of human nature in the book Night like losing hope during desperate times, doing anything for food and going to the extreme for pleasure and sex. In the book Night by Elie Wiesel, Eliezer Wiesel narrates the legendary tale of what happened to him and his father during the Holocaust. In the introduction, Wiesel talks about how his village in Seghet was never worried about the war until it was too late. Throughout the entire account, Wiesel has many traits that are key to his survival in the concertation camps.
A hero is someone who puts others before themselves. Heroic acts can range from small gestures or actions such as saving countless lives. Heroes are known for their outstanding achievements and selflessness. Welles Crowther was a hero because he put other people's lives ahead of his own and sacrificed his life for others.. As Welles was growing up, he had an interest in helping people.
Hans and Atticus are obviously heroes because they help to fight back against a cruel and barbarous society despite the consequences. They do this because they trust it is the right thing to do. Liesel can also be a hero because she stood up for what she believed in by stealing from the wealthy and helping the poor. These characters come to life in the form of Emma Gonzalez, who is an example of a real life hero. She is actively taking a stand against gun violence undeterred from the reality that she is constantly receiving death threats and other forms of hate.

My favorite character from all the prose selections we’ve read is Eliezer Wiesel, the author of the book Night. A young Jew boy who was put into a concentration camp. There are no words to explain the pain he went through. There are three major reasons to why he is my favorite and these are why; he is a survivor from the Holocaust, he risked all he had to try and keep the ones he loved alive, and although being young he never gave up. The way he tells his journey through this event is magnificent, so people can understand what actually happened 85 years ago.
Heroes in our society are revered and respected as Joseph Campbell reminds us: “A hero is someone who has given his or her life to something bigger than oneself” (Joseph Campbell). Heroes exist in all societies and throughout history. Maybe they are not always on the news or from the movies, but their words and their actions never fail to resonate across their feats. A hero gives of himself and dedicates himself to causes which better others and their society unlike individuals who are self serving, greedy, and cruel.
The Effects of Suffering on a 12 year Old Boy “Out of suffering have emerged the strongest souls; the most massive characters are seared with scars” - Khalil Gibran. Throughout Night, Elie Wiesel copes with the agony of the Holocaust first hand. Suffering by definition is the state of undergoing pain, distress, or hardship. In Wiesel’s Night, suffering forces people to make inhumane decisions, shatters hope, and destroys self identity. Suffering forces people to be put in bad places where they feel pressured to eventually make inhumane decisions.
Night is a powerful, first person account of the tragic horrors of the Holocaust written and endured by Elie Wiesel. In this dark literary piece, Wiesel's first hand tale of the atrocities and horrors endured in World War II concentration camps will leave an unforgettable, dark, macabre impression amongst readers that cannot be done with a simple listing of statistics. This tale of human perserverance and the dark side of human nature will cause readers to question their own humanity. Also, it will paint a vivid picture of the vile deeds that mankind is capable of expressing. Reading this book will leave a long lasting impression that is definitely not something that will be soon forgotten.
As Sukarno once said, “The worst cruelty that can be inflicted on a human being is isolation.” In Night by Elie Wiesel, Anna Karenina, and The Old Guitarist by Pablo Picasso, the protagonists all struggle with isolation. Elie, Anna, and the old man are isolated from society because they are different than everybody else and unworthy of being included, which results in depression, death, and misery. Elie Wiesel, a Jew removed from his home and relocated to Auschwitz, is an outcast and is isolated from the rest of society because he is considered different. When Elie first arrives to the death camp, he describes his surroundings as “empty and dead” (Wiesel 47).
Hero: A person, typically a man, who is admired or idealized for courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities; however, heroism is not synonymous with perfection. Man can be a hero in spite of having some flaws. This is apparent in The Crucible, by Arthur Miller, a story about the Salem Witch Trials in which Abigail Williams accuses dozens of innocent people of witchcraft. Despite being flawed, John Proctor, Reverend Hale, and Elizabeth Proctor can demonstrate their heroism in The Crucible. John Proctor is shown to be both a hero and a flawed man in regards to his lechery.
A hero is someone who helps others in a time of need, helps others out of genuineness, and sacrifices their life for others. In Albert Camus’, The Plague, Joseph Grand is identified as a hero because he brings salvation to the society of Oran. Joseph Grand’s authenticity and heroism are manifested through relieving suffering, sacrifice, and devoting his life to work. Joseph Grand is identified as a hero due to relieving suffering out of genuineness. Joseph Grand is a municipal clerk in the town of Oran when the plague hits.
