Heroism
What does the word hero mean to you? The actual definition of hero is “A man of distinguished courage or ability, admired for his brave deeds and noble qualities.” When I think about the word hero, I think of characteristics, but along with characteristics, I think of names that pop in my head of brave people. Not all of the hero like figures that I think of have these characteristics that were mentioned in the formal definition. Hero’s have unique definitions to me. Audie Leon Murphy, born June 20, 1925, was a well known hero from WWII. Murphy enlisted in the army 10 days after his 18th birthday, to honor his mother who had passed away. Another characteristic of a hero is going out of their way to do what best for others.
A great example of a hero, are my teachers. Of course I am going to use them as an example, but I have great teachers that posses all of the traits that I have mentioned. They don’t ask for recognition, nor do people give it all of the time. They truly spend there time for us. My teachers are my heros. In a time when I am desperate and in need of help, they will help me when I need it. They go out of their way for me. I truly am inspired by my teachers, and they inspire me when they don’t even know. That is the definition of hero to me.
Hiroo Onoda, a man who stayed in the jungle 29 years after WWII was over. This man had a love for his country so much that he stayed in the jungle 29 years after it was over. This man was a hero for his country. Onoda was found after being declared that he was dead and was found alive. He would not surrender until his commander came to him and told him it was okay to surrender. To me, that is a love for his country so much that he would not surrender, because he did not believe in giving up. A hero will not give up and that quality is one that everyone should
