How loyal are you to your Family? In the play Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare
In the city of Verona two lovers from different houses of equal nobility are in a feud that has lasted generations .This play is about two lovers and their love and ends with a heartbreaking tragedy. The tyrannical familys (Capulets and Montagues) and Romeo and Juliet’s loyalty to their families are most responsible for the lovers tragedy. They create/cause them both to make choices that hid their love from there family and while in the process of those choices put them in danger. family loyalty is most responsible for the death of the two lovers,in my opinion family loyalty was the reason romeo and Juliet made the choices they made. The Capulets are the main reason for the death of the two lovers and it can be seen in this quotation “soft,take me with you,take me with you, wife./How,will she none? Doth she not give us thanks?/ Is she not proud? Doth she not count her blest,/unworthy as she is,that we have wrought/so worthy a gentleman to be her bride?”(Shakespeare 3.5.141-145).This act of hostility that capulet shows when Juliet defies him displays to me that he sees Juliet as an object instead of a human whom he is able to control. This shock and disbelief that capulet conveys also solidifies to me the disregard capulet has for his daughter’s emotions. Capulet continues to show his disregard to Juliet as a person in this quotation “Speak not, reply not,do not answer me!/My fingers itch. Wife, we scarce thought us blest/ that god had lent us but this only child,/But now I see this one is one too much,/And that we have a curse in having her./Out on her Hilding”(shakespeare 3.5.164-168).This aggression shown in reply to Juliets defiance showns how little his daughter matters to him as he has the urge to hit her and cause her harm. This aggression shown contributes to the tragedy because it is the reason Juliet hides the relationship she has with Romeo in fear of the anger and betrayal her parents might feel or
