Loyalty and faithfulness are traits expected of all of mankind. They are virtues that embody the highest ideals of a modern day person. Even from the ancient Greeks, loyalty was demanded of human beings. However, back then, these traits weren’t expected from all. In Homer’s epic poem The Odyssey the basic standards of loyalty and faithfulness were different depending on the status of a person. This includes the two genders, relationships between a master and slave, and the relationship of a god or goddess and a mortal. They all showcase the expectancy of loyalty from the roles a person plays. Consequences and rewards are also given accordingly.
