Night by Elie Wiesel was a novel with great horror and suffering during the Holocaust. “Three days later, a new decree:every Jew had to wear the yellow star”(Wiesel 11).This quote marks the beginning of the religious segregation for Eliezer and his family. At this time the Jews had to wear stars, but as the novel progressed it got worse. It started as clothing then went to ghettos. Ghettos were enclosed districts where Jews lived separately from the world.

Believing in religious beliefs has always led to some form of conflict throughout history. In Number the Stars, written by Lois Lowery, the year is currently 1943, the same time period in which World War II is still raging on. The novel revolves around a ten-year-old girl, Annemarie Johansen, who lives in Copenhagen, Denmark with her parents and younger sister. Annemarie’s best friend, Ellen Rosen, also lives in the same apartment building with the Johansens and is a part of a Jewish household. During this period, many Jews living on the lands controlled by Germany were searched for by German soldiers, Nazis, and were sent to concentration camps.

Through out “Night” there were parts that showed that the Nazi”s were heartless and didn't think twice about anything. One example of the Nazi’s heartlessness was when they used babies as targets. They didn’t care about the babies and ended the lives of many innocent babies.

Although, the violence was targeted towards the Jewish people, non-Jewish people were also killed during this traumatizing event of world history.
