Everyone has overheard or mis-heard a friend at one point in their lives and that is exactly what happened in Much Ado About Nothing by William Shakespeare. Overhearing or mis-hearing could turn into a big problem, in some cases, overhearing can have a great impact on ones self. We see both of those themes being conveyed in the play. “Overhearing” and “mis-hearing” play a huge roll in the theme and plot of Much Ado About Nothing by William Shakespeare. Borrachio is the first one to overhear that Claudio is in love with Hero and how they plan on getting Hero to marry Claudio. Borrachio felt that their love was an interesting subject to mention to Don John. While Don John cannot stand his brother or his brother’s friends, Don John and Borrachio created a scheme to frame Hero of having an affair with another man. This set up the plot that was being conveyed in the play. Claudio was very upset about seeing is true love being with someone else. At the altar, Claudio accused Hero of being with that man and called off the wedding. Hero swore that she had been with no man and that she was being framed. The love story would have been just fine if Borrachio did not overhear the conversation or frame Hero of being a cheater. …show more content…

They set up a trap to get Benedick to revile his true feelings for Beatrice. Benedick was listening to the conversation of Claudio, Leonato, and Don Pedro to see what they were talking about and they in fact were talking about how much Beatrice loved him. What Benedick did not know was that Beatrice did not say any of those kind things that the boys mentioned. The boys knew that if they kept talking that Benedick would realize that he does love Beatrice and that he in fact does want to marry her. Now, Benedick just needs to get Beatrice to feel the same
