What message was Stiefvater trying to convey through The Scorpio Races? From my perspective, I assume that it was that despite whatever issues you may encounter, you should keep working towards your goals. The Scorpio Races exhibits the theme of perseverance throughout the novel by showing a variety of different ways in which Puck, Sean, and Gabe each persevered through their own individual struggles that they encountered. In the novel The Scorpio Races, written by Maggie Stiefvater. Puck and Sean are both two characters who compete in the annual Scorpio races. Both have their own unique reasons as to why they are taking part in such a lethal race. Puck displayed persistence by continuing to fight towards being allowed to race. Despite so many people attempting to prevent her from racing simply due to the fact she’s a woman, this was stated in the text when Puck was told, "You can’t have a woman on the beach." "It reverses the natural order" (Stiefvater 181). When many men were having a dispute with her regarding how, because she's a woman, she shouldn't partake in the races, no woman had taken part in the races before, causing the men to believe that it's unnatural for a woman to be a part of them. Puck, however, overcame this issue as well as displayed persistence. By standing her ground and showing them she had every right to compete in those races despite her gender, Therefore, persistence was displayed in the novel The Scorpio Races when Puck kept striving towards being allowed to partake in the race despite the numerous people who tried to deny her that
