1. Ann demonstrates and depicts the discontent she faced due to the isolation of herself from John many times in the story. Due to John’ s job as a farmer John and Ann barely have any communication or interactions with each other. This is proven through the text (She shook her head without turning. “Pay no attention to me. Seven years a farmer’s wife - it’s time I was used to staying alone.”)(page2) Ann here shows how John’s lifestyle as a farmer effects the communication, interaction and love between them. Ann also shows her discount when she is left at home whilst John went out in the blizzard. When he did not come back on the time he had identifies Ann started to felt isolated and lonely leading her to be discontent. The setting of “The Painted Door” takes place during the winter season on the prairie when people rode horses and carts, houses were far apart, roads where just pain dirt roads. The setting is very important as I accentuates Ann’s sense of isolation and loneliness. It also help to shows the readers how dangerous it is for John to go out during the winter blizzard.

The use of repetition in “The Painted Door” helps to put emphasizes on ideas and content in the story. Repetitions in Ross’s story is used to create the mood and atmosphere of the story. Ann constantly refers to the double wheel around ht moon, which shows the readers that there is a storm approaching which adds to the mood of the story. The authors also uses repetition to create a greater atmosphere for the story. When Ann compares John’s attributes to Stephen’s it helps to show her discontent for John, which helps to build in the atmosphere of the
