I am reading Pretty Tough, by Liz Tigelaar, and I am on page 100. This book is about two sisters who are entirely different. Charlie Brown whose name is made fun by everyone, wants to fit in and be as close to her sister Krista. Krista Brown, pretty and popular does not want anything to do with her sister, but when they both try out for their school soccer team and they both make it, Charlie does not know what is coming next.
The memoir can be relatable to young adults, as young adults face many challenges growing up. Young adults face a plethora of issues and to know that they’re not alone , and somebody else faced the same problems or even worse problems ,may help the youth find this memoir relatable. The entire memoir is about Jeannette struggling of her irrational family. Jeanette family never stayed in one place and when they did the conditions were poor. Jeannette mentioned “Instead of beds, we kids each slept on a cardboard box, like the ones refrigerator get delivered in”.
By putting on the Pants, the girls feel as though they’re surrounded by their friends, and this feeling gives them the power to move forward. Two Sisters, Two Americas is a brilliant article by Brooke Ross that illustrates the life of a family with a mixed-status and what should be done about it. Many people agree that an illegal immigration reform is necessary however people can’t seem to agree on what needs to be done about it. The issue about the immigration reform has created many fights between democrats and Republicans and although both sides think something needs to be done they can’t agree on what to do. Although most people don’t seem to realize is that illegal immigrants are people like us who are trying to find safety and better opportunities. It is clear that illegal immigrants need some pathway to becoming a citizen.

Despite the entropic nature of Jeanette’s parents , you have always said that something extraordinary has had to start with passion, or as you would say, the further up you go, the longer it’s going to take you to fall down. With what seems to be nothing as a safety net for Jeanette in an exsanguinous family, I wonder how you were able to start a new life with no family outside of my brother and I. As you had to completely start your life over again, I understand the struggle of being too independent, or secluded. However, without you, my brother and I would both be struggling without a wind pushing us towards success. Even though you sometimes drive both me and my brother crazy, you are the fire that warms us up when we need heat.
Rather than spending time reflecting on themselves and trying to figure how their own feelings and wants, teenagers immediately turn to their friends for their opinions. “The text-driven world of rapid response does not make self-reflection impossible but does little to cultivate it” (172). In the book the girls “shoot” texts to multiple people in hopes that they will get a response in a few seconds. When they don’t receive the results they desire, they send the text to others. The Rebellious Age Throughout all of history, the actions of teenagers have been scrutinized by adults. This scrutiny can be seen in short stories such as, John Updike’s “A & P,” as well as Max Apple’s “Stepdaughters.” For “Stepdaughters” we can see the rebellion through the 15-year-old Stephanie’s continuation of shot-putting, despite her mother’s disapproval and her stepfathers ‘neutral’ position. While in “A & P” the rebellious behavior of wearing their bathing suits into the store is disapproved upon by the manager, whereas the employee feels they have done no wrong. The stories’ conflicts have similar features: antagonists who oppose the choices of the teenage girls and protagonists who support the girls.
