Two scholarly writers brilliantly conveyed nature in their own opinion, an essay written by John Miller called, ”The Calypso Borealis," and a poem by William Wordsworth called, "I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud.” Both authors created work that acquires their idea of the beauty of nature while showing their compassion and love for nature. They each endured the essence in their own way. Each author also used their memory as descriptive imagery to creative share the scenery and amazement of their experience. Each individual has their own personal opinion about nature and how they decide to express their feelings can be diverse, and both authors, John Muir and William Wordsworth, expressed their compassion and love for nature in their own way.
The Child Called “It” In the novel The Child Called “It” by Dave Pelzer. In the book the main character Dave experiences what it is like to be abused. In the beginning he talks about how it all started and by the end, he finds a way to escape.
Scientists are on the brink of developing a way to stamp their ads not only in the sky or on beaches, but on the wings of butterflies. Undisturbed nature is being overtaken by technology in a race run by “cash-strapped municipalities.” In his work “last Child in the Woods,” Richard Louv argues that the crevasse between people and nature continues to widen day by day. In the beginning paragraphs, Louv makes a brave assumption about American culture today: that true nature is “not even worth looking at” in the eyes of the stereotypical fast-paced American.
Nature in American Literature The setting of a novel has the ability to set a mood for readers throughout the story, and in the majority of the stories read this semester nature is relied on heavily for this function. During the realistic, naturalistic, and modernistic periods in American literature, nature has been brought to life in different ways to illuminate the cultural views of that time. Willa Cather’s One of Ours, William Faulkner’s As I Lay Dying, and Stephen Crane’s The Open Boat are all examples of texts that illuminate certain aspects of nature relative to their time.
I viewed Howard Korder’s “Boy’s Life” on June 4th, at the Glenn Hughes Penthouse Theatre. The play follows the lives of Jack, Don, and Phil, three young professionals trying to figure out their love lives (played by Tim Moore, Nathan Wornian, and Denny Le respectively). The new college grads are all in different places in terms of relationships. Jack is married with a child, but seemed dissatisfied, most likely because his large personality could not handle the fact that his wife wore the pants in the family. Don is looking around, and finally finds Karen (played by Emma Brocker), an eccentric woman who puts Don is his place and forces him to grow up.
Stephanie Herrick Ordinary Men Analysis HST 369 February 22, 2017 Many men avoided WWII by joining the Order Police. These ‘policemen’ were sent to Poland, or the Soviet side of Poland to maintain order. There were thousands of men who were not wanting to enlist into the military to be on the front lines, thus deciding to join the police. The policemen had two ‘decrees’ to keep up with, it was described in the book Ordinary Men written by Christopher Browning, the commissar order; which involved for on-the-spot execution of any communist suspect of being an anti-German.
John Muir states “It seems wonderful that so frail and lovely a plant has such power over human hearts” (Muir). These words create a spiritual mood and make me feel the power of nature. The words “rejoicing”, “glorious” and “cried for joy” add to the mood of the story because they really create the feeling of having joyous revelation when someone is in harmony with nature. Wordsworth, on the other hand, states that “A poet could not but be gay, /In such a jocund company” (Ln 15-16).

But in these two stories they are talking about freedom in a different way. First in the story “Emancipation”, they talk about how the animal had the choice if it wanted to be free or if it wanted to stay.
Throughout history many wars have been fought and many authors have written about how they have mentally affected soldiers. “A Boy in France” is a short story by the famous J.D. Salinger. This story brings the thoughts and feelings of a soldier into life with creative uses of setting and diction. Salinger uses setting and imagery to create a vivid story to bring to life how soldiers really felt in a war and how often their feelings were quickly dismissed.
Their perspectives of nature, however, are vastly different due to their circumstances regarding companionship and affection from companions. Victor Frankenstein describes nature as calming and it brings him great happiness when he is surrounded by nature because he himself is happy and adored by friends who surround him. Frankenstein has friends whom he holds strong bonds with where “harmony was the soul of [their] companionship, and the diversity and contrast that subsided [their] characters drew [them] nearer together” (29, Chapter 2). He is surrounded by companions that give him plenty of love and affection that in turn, bring him happiness and a favoring outlook on nature. Victor takes pleasure in wandering through various scenes of nature, feeling accepted by it, therefore, he can portray it as full of life and “awful and majestic” (82, Chapter 10).
In Mary Shelley’s iconic gothic novel, Frankenstein, Romantic themes are strongly represented in order to propagandize Romanticism over the elements of knowledge and the Enlightenment. In her novel, Shelley uses gothic nature settings to foreshadow dark events that are about to happen in the novel. She also uses nature to intensify the effect that is brought during significant scenes, a strong example being, when Victor Frankenstein’s monster approaches him after a long period of time. Nature and its use to influence mood is one of the most paramount themes of both Frankenstein and Romanticism.
Leilah Smith Dr. Cothren English II G March 1, 2018 Behind the Scenes: The Blissfulness of Nature Nature is a pure and natural source of renewal, according to Romantics who frequently emphasized the glory and beauty of nature throughout the Romantic period. Poets, artists, writers, and philosophers all believe the natural world can provide healthy emotions and morals. William Wordsworth, a notorious Romantic poet, circles many of his poems around nature and its power including his “The World is Too Much With Us” and “I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud.”
However there is a deeper connection between romanticism and nature all together. Many poets consider nature as the source of human ideas and emotions. “Henry David Thoreau says a poet who lived in a cabin on Walden Pond for two years, believed that people were meant to live in the world of nature”. Although the work of nature is characterized by search for self or identity, the poet William Wordsworth getting inspiration from Coleridge and nature wrote of the deeper emotions. Romanticism and nature are connected because the artists and philosophers of the romantic period romanticized the beauty of nature, and the power of the natural world.

The creative artist uses nature to reveal both comic and tragic aspects of human life. Nature itself acts as one the most dominating characters in text which exercises its powerful impression upon the character.
