In the short story, “A sound of Thunder”, Ray Bradbury used figurative language to make a bigger impact on the story. When Eckels goes into the office he sees and hears, “... A sound like a gigantic bonfire burning all of Time, all the years and all the parchment calendars- all the hours piled high and set aflame.” The author, Ray Bradbury, wanted his audience to have a specific image set in the audience’s head. By using a simile he help the reader imagine how Eckle’s is going to get to the past.

The story follows a man named Eckles on his journey to the past on a hunt for a real dinosaur. As the events in the past unfold, Eckles ultimately alters the future forever by taking a small step off the Path. The path is there to make sure the time travelers do not affect the future. Unfortunately, Eckles learns the true consequences of his actions when he returns to a changed future.
Bradbury uses foreshadowing in many of his stories. The one I think he uses foreshadowing in the most would be The Sound of Thunder. Throughout the story they repeatedly say “Stay on the path! Stay on the path!”. The whole time I was reading, I knew someone was going to step off the path.
Ray Bradbury’s “There Will Come Soft Rains,” tells the story of a self-regulating house that is all that is left of the world. Through the use of diction, the reader is able to understand the shifts in tone throughout the story. In the beginning of the story, we are introduced to the house. Bradbury uses terms such as “ruined city,” “radioactive glow,” and “rubble and ashes,” (Bradbury 1) effectively creating a dark and forlorn atmosphere. The author’s word choice creates an image in the reader’s mind of how desolate the house’s surroundings are, ultimately contributing to the somber tone.
For example, he uses gothic imagery to describe the surroundings of the ravine. “Black crickets and dark green frogs and the black stream. The colours black and green can be associated with the atmosphere of the place, giving a scary ambience, making it more vulnerable. Bradbury also uses symbolism at the end of the story “She wished she were back in that time now, drinking from it, the night still young and not begun”. Here she is looking back at her life, wishing she could go back in time and redo the day.
The "Pedestrian" is a futuristic story about a man who is not involved with the world. Bradbury uses setting, figurative language, and symbolism to affect the overall succession of the story. First, Bradbury uses figurative language to portray the negative view of technology on people. He uses similes to show how people are affected. For example, "But now these highways, too, were like streams in a dry season all stone and bed and moon radiance.
Short Story Thesis/Outline of There Will Come Soft Rain The short story There Will Come Soft Rain is set in the future, where the author illustrates the only smart house left after a nuclear explosion. Bradbury uses vivid imagery, figurative language, and allusion to show that technology is not affected by the annihilation of human existence. Bradbury paints a vivid picture of this automated house doing daily tasks for humans but no one is there. For example, the author describes the silhouette of a family that used to live in a house burnt into the woods.

This is how they are different AND alike. First, I will be talking about the poem written by Sara Teasedale. Now this poem written by Teasedale was written in the year “1920” was written to warn people about the Great War or more commonly know as World War One.

It also relates to the book “There will come soft Rains” by Ray Bradbury, the house in the story operates itself so it just kept going and it never stopes, it kind of is like nature in Teasdale’s poem. In the beginning of the poem it was talking about how peaceful nature was, then it goes into how war was going to end things and kill humans. The humans are doing this to themselves.
