The character I selected was Therese LaFirme; she is an owner of the Place du Bois plantation on the novel “At Fault” by Kate Chopin. The way Therese is portrayed she is a unique American from the analysis in the novel. How she is portrayed is simply based on a strong character which the character is the focus point in the story. She quickly finds out how hard situations can present it when it comes to different problems at a young age. The way Therese is portrayed in this story seems as if she has a way of thinking that she is independent. Even after the death of her husband she realizes she can still continue to be happy, Therese still manages to fall in love with a man name David Hosmer. Getting together with David even though it makes her forget about the death of her husband she still somehow shows that she is a really strong character. …show more content…
Also after the passing of her husband she was pretty strong of a character for being so strong and to move on with her life even after the tragic death of her husband. I think American cultures tend to want individuals to move on with their life after the loss of someone they once loved. Therese at one point wished she died right along with her husband; it affected her tremendously because she was so young after the death. Although it may have seemed pretty easy for her to move on she is back to living her normal life. However moving on with her life this novel shows how strong of an American she really was to overcome her
