The films One Flew over the Cuckoo’s Nest and, A Beautiful Mind portray Hollywood images of the treatment. It pictures the dramatic scene of a pleading patient dragged to a treatment room, forcibly administered electric currents as his jaw clenches, his back arches, and his body shakes while being held down by burly attendants or by foot and wrist restraints. The truth is that patients are not covered into treatment. They may be anxious and reluctant, but they come willingly. They have been told why the treatment is recommended, the procedures have been explained, and many have seen videos images of the procedures.
Lord of the Flies by William Golding is a controversial novel written in 1954, right in the middle of The Cold War. The novel is about a group of British schoolboys, who, during World War two were put on a plane to evacuate from somewhere in Britain. The plane crashes on a deserted island, leaving the boys stranded. As the novel progresses, the dark underlining of the story becomes more and more apparent, as does Golding’s view of human nature. His view on human nature is pessimistic and cynical.
In the second to last chapter in Robert Bloch's psycho, the extreme mental condition of Norman is explained to Sam, who then explains it to Lila. This chapter winds down the climax and resolves the issues just as a good conclusion should. Lila is given closure with the discovery of May’s body, and being given an understanding of Norman's mental health that possibly stemmed from his sheltered childhood. Lila even goes as far as to feel sorry for Norman, and near the end of the chapter she offers up as possible thesis to the book, "there’s a psycho in all of us.” All external issues become resolved, and if ended there, would still make for an enjoyable book.
Harper Lee accurately outlined a not so desirable trait that all humans have in her timeless classic book To Kill a Mockingbird. She brilliantly brings it to people’s attention how desperately humans are to be noticed by others. Regardless of how much we deny our dependency on getting attention, our disgusting addiction for it will not go away. We long for the satisfaction of knowing something that others do not, so we assume we have all the answers and tell people things that we infer about someone just from the observations we make.
The first third of SLAUGHTERHOUSE FIVE by Kurt Vonnegut shows off the author’s ability to craft compelling characters that the reader deeply cares about with the characters of Kurt Vonnegut and Billy pilgrim. The first character that the reader gets to experience is that of the author himself as the the entire first chapter is just about Kurt telling the process of trying to create the Story of SLAUGHTERHOUSE FIVE and in this chapter he manages to make himself a very compelling character through the use of pity. One of the main ways that Vonnegut creates this pity is largely through self deprecation, throughout the entire first chapter he talks about himself in a very demeaning way. Examples of this are when he calls himself a old fart several
After World War II, people around the world were skeptical of everything: the government, their leaders, and society as a whole. Many were in a constant state of fear of nuclear annihilation. William Golding’s Lord of the Flies, published in 1954, is believed to be a “political and historical allegory, even as a cautionary tale for the leaders of the world” (Henningfeld). The island is what the world would be like after nuclear annihilation, and the demise of the boys is what Golding is warning society about. Ray Bradbury’s Fahrenheit 451, published in 1953, is set in a society that has endured multiple atomic wars.
The literary canon is famous for assembling a debate around literary scholars. The likelihood that scholars will unanimously agree to a definite canon list of pieces of works is unfeasible, and the method by which the pieces of works are nominated for admittance into the canon is not popular among the literary scholars. When in actuality, only those that have the particular jurisdiction to determine which literary works advocates the topics of review that preserve the capability of the canons. This includes the literary critics, editors, publishers and educators. Despite the fact that the canon may be a trifling matter that uses the individual’s personal feelings or opinions, those who have the authority to nominate such literary works initially

In the start of the introduction, Stephen King begins with a biological experience that he had in Sophomore year of High School. He uses his personal writing experience from the past to inform me about how bad of a writer he was. Stephen, uses hyperbole which seems to be pretty enthusiastic to me. Into the article, he demonstrates his enthusiastic characteristic by writing “I wasn’t suspended. I was forced to make a number of apologies- they were warranted, but still they tasted dog dirt into my mouth –and I spent a week in detention.”
Juan Solis Writing Style in Fahrenheit 451. Ray Bradbury’s style in Fahrenheit 451 is unique, and it helps add to the story’s atmosphere and tone. Bradbury structures his sentences in such a way that it makes the described situation feel heavier, and more meaningful. His vocabulary adds a rich sense of imagery, this is also combined with his use of figurative language throughout, compliments it further. These things come together to form a type of style that’s powerful, bizarre, and even confusing at times.
Leading with Soul is both an inspiring book and a guide for becoming a better leader. The book alternates between telling the story of a leader who is striving to find meaning in his work, and regular interludes, which include summaries, reflective questions, and information regarding various spiritual philosophies. I was exposed to dimensions of leadership I had never previously considered. This paper will reflect upon how Leading with Soul helped me understand the spiritual nature of leadership, identify strategies for nurturing the spiritual side of my own leadership, expand my capacity for assisting others during challenging times, and increase my compassion while working with difficult others.
