The principle of third generation interest refers to the interest of the latter generations of a particular ethnic group. This interest causes the younger generation to become more aware and to become interested in their ancestors.The third generation principle is facilitated by the third generation interest. This particular interest can also be described as an alternative approach to the assimilationist approach to White ethnic groups. The third generation consists of the grandchildren of the original immigrants. This particular group can even include the likings of tortured individuals and even the generation derived from those doing the torturing. The third generation interest is basically the increase in the interest of latter generations on their ancestors. It can also be known as the increase in the interest of the grandchildren of the the original immigrants. Because this principle is against assimilation, I feel that it can both increase and decrease life chances of ethnic groups. I feel that it has a good effect and a bad effect. The positive side of this principle would be that it makes the latter generations aware of the struggle. It also allows the latter generations to never forget their history. It also motivates the generations to come to keep the dream and hope alive that one day we will all live equally. Although it has a positive effect, it can also have a negative effect. The only negative I find is that it creates a hatred between the ethnicities. It has been proven in the many hate crimes committed in today’s society, that the traditions of the past are still alive. If we can put away the hate of the past and embrace the dream of unity, then our world would be a more peaceful place
