We have witnessed hierarchy from the start of civilization; it has been both our downfall and a blessing. We have had many forms of hierarchy, but when put forth it starts to crumble from those oppressed. The fourth way of Thomas Aquinas's five proofs for God's existence is degree. The degree is based that everything has order, and in result some are better off than others. There are some flaws in this proof, being equal, natural selection, and behaviors. God was deemed that everyone is equal under his eyes, and that Jesus died for us. If everyone is equal than why did God create a hierarchy? If you give birth to two identical twins, and raise them completely identical as well, is there then one better than the other? How can someone be better when we are taught that everyone is equal. It has been said that we are born innocent and as we age we see the evil of the world. A hierarchy of souls would mean that being born we are predetermined a sinner or not. Instead we are given a clean slate to consciously make our life decisions as we please. If God gives us a purpose for the course of our life, does that mean he gives a purpose to make someone be a bad person? A child who was raised in a nurturing, good environment where religion was a priority but ends us as a bad person; is their soul better than a child who was raised wrongly with no religion but has never done a single thing wrong? How does the order of souls go and where does it come from. If Jesus died for our sins, does that mean that the hierarchy of souls is abolished as well? There is no order of souls, and people make their own decisions as to how they will be judged wherever we end up. All of these three reasons show that the fourth degree does not support that there is a God. Instead it creates doubt and skepticism around it, making people wonder where they stand on the social ladder of
