The Compact created the idea of a social contract . A social contract is authorized to follow the compact's rules and regulations for the sake of order and survival. “Civil Body Politic” purpose was to set equal law for the pilgrims and the stranger on the Mayflower ship.
The Declaration of Independence says: “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights that among these are Life, Liberty and The Pursuit of Happiness. ”(Declaration of Independence US 1776) As we can see the social contract and The Declaration of Independence are alike in many aspects. The Declaration of Independence is not only to list the freedoms of the people, it is also a list of reclamations of what Americans don't like about Britain's policy.
Social contracts in America have been molded around public policy through the years. Public policy is influenced by the citizens of America and the countries stability. Social contracts like the Affordable Care Act (ACA) conveys a political message that the government is establishing a social contract with the citizens of America. The ACA established a social contract with physicians and hospitals by mandating rules and regulations. However, both social contracts have flaws that can hinder physician and patient relationship, care, and cost.
The chance for those people to change for the better; to become a better person and a chance to have a bright future was destroyed in one single law. This is so inhumane. Is one single mistake/crime equivalent to death? Is death the answer? You could say that they cannot repeat their mistakes if they were killed, but have you thought or realized that he/she can regret his/her crimes, repent and change?
Social Contract is known as the basic concept that the people of a society are supposed to be subject to laws/rules, whether they’re right or wrong. The US Civil Rights Movement is a good example of justifying breaking the social contract. The US Civil Rights Movement was a time between 1954 to 1968 that involved a series of events that would later end up to colored people being freed from segregation laws along with gaining equality in society, even though this led to a time that made discrimination rise significantly. Breaking the social contract was justified in this occasion because of how much colored people were going through, therefore they had to break laws regarding segregation in order to gain justice.
Social contracts were proposed with the intentions of creating
The social contract in John Locke’s declaration is the State of Nature. The natural condition of mankind is a state of perfect and complete liberty to conduct one’s life as one best sees fit. Locke’s social contract is best described as freedom from the interference of others in one’s life. The State of Nature is pre-political, but it is not pre-moral by today’s standards. Another social contract from Locke is the Law of Nature.
This contract is a set of rules that governs how people treat each other within a society. What we need to understand is that with this contract, there are still going to be those few who violate it. What contractualism justifies is that the state, its laws, and mechanisms of social control by arguing that those must be present in society to prevent from regressing into a state of nature wherein theft, violence, and other social issues would run rampant (Arrigo, 2012, p. 115). As these young children are developing, the social contract may be too difficult for them to understand until they have reached a certain level of maturity. Another way to better understand this would be to look at Kohlberg’s Moral Stages of Development.
One of the most powerful factors of criminal sentencing is proving they are remorseful for the wrongdoing of the action they may have committed. If you were a judge in a court of law, and you had to decide the sentences of two different people who committed the same action, one who looked and proved remorse versus one who did not care about their crime and proved no regret; you would most likely dismiss or sentence the person who proved sorrow less than the other non-remorseful person. Except for the crime that you are delivering a verdict on is the sentencing of someone being held accountable for their actions taken in a life-or-death situation. People should not be held accountable in life-or-death situations because they could have been
Social contract is an agreement that society and the community
Civilization means to be a part of a culture, to have a leader who takes power, and to be apart of orderly society. In the novel The Lord of the Flies by William Golding, Simon is the most civilized boy on the island because he has the most positive outlook out of every boy on the island, he is insightful of what and where the beast is, and, he is the first to realize most of the problems that occur on the island. Simon has the most positive outlook out of every boy on the island. Simon insisted multiple times that the boys would get rescued, even when Ralph strongly doubted the possibility.
About 20,000 people are murdered each year. Not many murders are forgiven. The murders forgiven are forgiven by people with mercy. One particular example of forgiveness would be Mary Johnson’s story. Mrs.Johnson forgave her son’s killer and became close friends with him.

The Social Contract Theory stemmed from the time of the Enlightenment. This was a time of thinking outside of the forced social construct; for an individual to have their own thoughts and ideas about what was being instructed upon them. It was a time to contemplate the orders and laws given by strict verbatim. The Social Contract Theory can be defined as the authority of the government over that of the people and how the rights of an individual is threatened in return to some protection over other rights. This product even has prevalence in today’s society.
After these contracts are established, however, then society becomes possible, and people can be expected to keep their promises, cooperate with one another, and so on. I believe that thanks to the social contract we created justice and established what is moral and immoral for the whole society and not only on what we think could be moral or immoral. This topic may be controversial for some people because they will probably think that even though the social contract was created to be equal for all people there are some things until today that does not apply for all. But for me that is not a strong reason to do not believe in the Social contract I strongly believe in this theory because this is what makes a civil society with justice and morality. A philosopher Stuart Rachels suggests that, “ morality is the set of rules governing behavior that rational people accept, on the condition that others accept them too”.
