Thomas Paine was born in England and was a political philosopher and a writer. Thomas Paine helped shape many of the ideas that marked the age of revolution. “Common sense” his highly popular pamphlet was published in 1776. “Common sense” was the first to advocate American independence. Paine later returned to Europe after writing the “crisis” paper. He offered his defense of the French revolution with “the rights of man”. His political views led to a stint in prison. After his release, he produced his last great pamphlets “the age of reason” an exposition of institutionalized religion, and “agrarian justice” a call for land
