Thoreau starts off the chapter be recalling the various places he nearly bought before settling with the Walden point, on Emerson’s property. He tells about how important it is to carefully consider whatever property in the focus before buying it. Thoreau also states that it is best best “live free and uncommitted” as long as possible.
