The book that I have chosen for this semester was “Life in motion”, an autobiography by Misty Copeland. I personally chose to read this book because it is about a dancer and I am a dancer. This book stood out to me because she is my inspiration and has been for a long time. I look up to her and I decided well, to read a book about my inspiration.
The concepts that I enjoy learning this week is hearing about the different stories of my classmates that I have not have the chance to know about before. Furthermore, I enjoy reading the novel Fahrenheit 451 as our first book of the year. In addition, I have heard many good reviews from this book before and I have never had the chance to actually
Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury- The most recent book in my literacy journey, the book that opened my eyes. I believe that a great book teaches you a life lesson. It leaves a mark of wisdom on you. For me, Fahrenheit 451 did just that.
What’s your favorite book? Think about what draws you to it. Is it the wording that appeals to you, or is it the theme? Each person has different opinions on various pieces of writing depending on the personality of the reader. Equally so, the attitude of the writer and the time period it was written shows in the overall theme of the piece.
To that result would be that if I can read these two (If This Be Treason: Translation and Its Dyscontents, A Memoir and Go Set a Watchman) then I will persuade reading A Portrait of an Artist as a Young Man. Let 's remain chattering about books. I 've completed The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath, and I must say that her life really draws my attention. The way she lived and wrote this novel based on her own story, quasi-autobiographical, is jaw-dropping.
The Selection proves a fun and light read, when one wants to simply pass time. However, to those who enjoy well-written
As the nature of this letter implies, I have finished Thomas Foster’s book, How to Read Literature like a Professor. It was intriguing and helped me to see things that otherwise I wouldn’t have noticed. Even some of the topics that seemed common sense were given greater significance after he explained them. For example, the chapter on the seasons the concepts/meanings are commonly known yet seeing how they fall into play in an actual story is fascinating. I never considered that the seasons could be incorporated in such complex ways short of plot, theme, mood, and setting.
I really enjoyed reading the “The Thousand and One Nights” I felt like the King and her sister, I could not stop reading and was so eager to know what will happen to the end of story after story. What I noticed on every single stories is that there is always a character who is very deceitful and the other one is powerful. Also, most women in the stories are always the bad ones. On both King Shahrayar and King Shahrazad both of their wives cheated on them. The lady in the forest who claimed she’s the daughter of Indian King and turned out to be a she-ghoul.
The consideration of the works I analyzed during this class helped to give me more understanding of what the reader would be looking for in a fantasy adventure for younger readers. This helped my writing in a way knowing the story alone is not enough. These specific authors, and the way they kept the story moving, helped to show me that there needs to be something to hook and keep the reader's attention so that they will continue through the story. There needs to be depth in not only the character but also the setting and throughout the entire story. There needs to be something underlying that gives the reader a sense of why the story is happening as well as where it may go.
The required readings that I enjoyed during the past year were The Great Gatsby, The Taming of the Shrew and Frankenstein. These novels had lessons to express. In The Great Gatsby, I learned that people change and if you live in the past you 're in for a rude awakening. Taming a woman is foolish and you 're never tamed its compromise you succumb to in the Taming of the Shrew. In Frankenstein, your passion can drive you to accomplish a multitude of endeavors for ethical or unethical reasoning, yet it will come with consequences.
My first novel was Brave New World by Aldous Huxley. I enjoyed the book but would not recommend it to a student that doesn’t enjoy reading or has difficulty reading. I think maybe if there was a background paragraph given to students at the beginning of reading stating the social classes and maybe giving the characters a face (like putting an actor to a character). The amount of time for reading this book was a good amount and I was able to read it and learn some without feeling too rushed. But I would definitely suggest this book to someone that likes to look at society in a different way.
For as long as I can remember I have loved reading. Fiction, non-fiction, biographies, it doesn’t really matter to me. I remember my mom trying to teach me how to read when I was three. I started off reading small Dr. Suess books and then it was on to newspapers and chapter books. One of my all-time favorite books when I was a kid was Junie B. Jones.
In the book, The Sound of Waves, Mishima uses direct characterization to characterize Terukichi as a respected man on the island and a man who has authority. In The Sound of Waves, Mishima creates many obstacles for Shinji to be with Hatsue, the daughter of a man who is well respected, and also has much authority. “He knew that her father was Terukichi Miyata, the wealthy owner of two coasting freighters chartered to Yamagawa Transport- the hundred- and- eighty-five-ton Utajima- Maru and ninety-five ton Haraukaze- Maru”(Mishima 18).
The text that had the most personal impact on me upon my four years of english classes was The Alchemist. I chose this book it had many opportunities what i could do in my life how i’m gonna become during life moving on to college. Their be challenges i would have to overcome in college. These obstacles will perish in order to achieve my goal in life.
My experience as a reader isn 't as extraordinary as many, but I love to read. I had some great teachers throughout my education that taught me to enjoy reading challenge oneself and not be intimidated by it. Through college and today I do not have much time to read, other than school books speech, education ,and reading. Those are the sweet books I know read.
