In the story The Odyssey by Homer the book has three important threats that come up while Odysseus is on his journey. The three most important threats are when he gets “stuck” on a terrible island, how he’s going to figure out if his family is still loyal to him back at home, and lastly all the guys he kills on his land so that he doesn’t get killed. The first threat he has to overachieve is the island. Odysseus gets trapped on an island with a beautiful woman and beautiful landscape. The woman doesn’t want him to go back to his wife so she persuades him to stay. While on the island he has an affair with her and eventually somebody comes to tell the woman that she needs to let Odysseus free. He meets a herder who tells him that if he goes into his home like that he will be killed. Odysseus then is dressed as a poor looking person. While like this his son comes home and Odysseus doesn’t quite react like normal. He doesn’t tell his son that it’s him because he needs to earn is trust and loyalty before he knows him. It takes awhile before Odysseus and his son properly meet. This then leads up to the third threat, which is the plan with the guys. Odysseus is in a room with all of the guys who took over, still dressed as a poor guy. He watches them all try to put the string on the bow to shoot through the rings of the axes. None of them get it and the last guy throws it. Odysseus picks it up and is able to put the string on the bow. He picks up an arrow and aims to shoot through all of the rings. When he does he turns back to himself. All the men figure out who he is and tries to attack him and his son. While all the doors are guarded Odysseus and his son kill all the men in the room. Later that night he finally sees Penelope again and they hug and kiss. Odysseus faced all of the 20 maybe men in the room with his son so that he could be home with his family, be safe, and not have to worry about men who want to kill him while he lives
