Book Review: Three Days
This book, written by Chris Stepien, was one suggesting details about the three days Jesus was missing after he, his family, and the rest of his town’s caravan visited Jerusalem for the Passover tradition. All that can be found in the Bible to learn about this experience are twelve verses in Luke’s Gospel, but Stepien used his imagination and studies to write a novel on what may have happened in that time.
The book seems slow to start, but it requires some of the details given at this point in the story for later parts to come together. The first few chapters of the book discuss young Jesus’ day to day life, including his family, his friends, and his home town, Nazareth. As this is all explained, it is clear that Jesus stands out from the other young people in the town in a spiritual way, as he always is quoting scripture and doing well in his classes with the Rabbi. The author took a while to get to the “Three Days” part of the story, as Jesus was not lost until about the last seven chapters of the book. The first 24 were all leading up to that point and it was slow. Once he got there, he did a nice job suggesting what may have happened, but readers must remember this is just speculation, and different things may have happened. The author wrote the book in an easy to read style, although I didn’t agree with some of his transitioning. Mid-chapter, Stepien would jump between settings and situations between paragraphs with no warning or indicators. It was somewhat frustrating because ideas in one setting were not wrapped up before he jumped to another. Other than those issues, it was a well thought out, easy to read, and very biblically cited
