SOC 100 - Midterm Essay In the U.S., we were taught to categorize people into different “racial groups” such as White, Black, Asian, and so on, based on physical features, including skin color, hair texture, shapes of lips, and more. However, race is socially and not biologically constructed. According to the textbook, sociologists described race as a human invention which was shaped by social forces present in a time and place of its creation. There are three main arguments for why race is created and designed by society.
1. Ethnicity (10/265) – a system for classifying people who are believed to share common descent, based on perceived cultural similarities. • My ethnicity is Hispanic. 2. Aspects of diversity are in concordance with age, cognitive means, cultural factors, disability and other significant determinants. The womens movement and progressivism throughout World War I made it possible for women to not only continue working but to vote along with all other Americans due to the nineteenth amendment. Not only did Roosevelt help corporations but he also wanted to help Americans that were dying in his American states. President Roosevelt not only helped to put millions on Americans back to work but the CCC, Civilian Conservation Corp and the CWA, Civil Works Administration also help put Americans back to work.

We distinguish the uniqueness of individuals in such ways that our genotype and phenotype are closely associated to classifying these individuals into a particular race.
