Sloths By:Cameron R, Did you know that sloths are the slowest animal in the world? Did you also know that sloths spend almost their whole life in trees? While they are in the trees they eat leaves that are on the trees. If they are not eating leaves they will eat little insects on the ground.
For this last and final book review I read the graphic novel Sloth by Gilbert Hernandez. Although a very confusing read, there were many interesting aspects to it. The story is centered around three young teenagers: Miguel, Lita, and Romeo. Hernandez begins the novel with Miguel awakening from a year long coma, with Miguel explaining how he willed himself into and out of the coma. Similar to a sloth, Miguel slowly begins to adjust to his somewhat changed life.
Sense after reading "life of Pi" Pi is a teenager born in India and at the same time believing in Christianity, Islam and Hinduism. His father runs a zoo, so he knows the habits of animals. Frankly speaking, the beginning of this story is not attractive, mixed with a religious belief in a teenager's growth experience. Then the story officially entered into the "fantasy draft". Pi family take boat to move to Canada with their animals, Pi's father wanted to bring the animals to a foreign country in order to sell a good price.
Of Mice and Men, by John Steinbeck, is a story about discrimination due to someone being different in any way. The reader learns how people were treated and discriminated in 1930s during the great depression. This is important because this issue continues even to this day. This problem has been around for a very long time. Steinbeck uses Archetypes,Symbolism, and Setting to convey the theme of discrimination.
Pi continues his journey by learning how to live in a small space with these animals and even training one of them. In the end Pi reveals another story with people replacing the animals that were on the lifeboat before. Pi had initially used animals which best represented the people who were really in the boat. This showed how throughout the story, since these people were put into a life threatening situation, they had revealed a more primal side. Life of Pi is accompanied with various symbols, with each
The ecology of sloths When people hear “sloth” they usually think of a lazy mammal that does barely anything and isn’t that interesting, but they are wrong. Sloths are very interesting, they have many interactions with lots of different organisms. Sloths are arboreal{tree dwelling} mammals that live in the rainforest canopies of central and south America. A sloth’s diet consists of plants, when they are ready to defecate they go to the forest floor dig a hole and go, this sends the nutrients back into the ecosystem and makes an area for sloth moths to lay their eggs.. Sloth are very interesting mammals that are a big part of the arboreal mammals in some areas of central and south American rainforests.
Pi’s mother is displayed as the typical housewife in India as she takes on the stereotypical domestic roles of a woman by cooking, cleaning and looking after her children in their household. In addition, “Before moving to Pondicherry zoo, father ran a large hotel in madras” (Martel 14). Evidently, Pi’s father takes on the role of the breadwinner in the novel by going to work everyday and by controlling the household. Furthermore, as being the dominant figure in the household, Pi’s father (Santosh Patel) has made the major decisions in the household, for instance like moving to Canada and selling the Podicherry zoo. On the Patel’s moving day, Pi’s mother seemed “sad.
Who is my favorite character and why? Theres a couple diffrent characters i like. So im going to pick two, i like chunk, and sloth. I can relate to chunk rather well.
In the book Of Mice and Men Steinbeck uses symbolism to illustrate key aspects of the novella. The book portrays people struggling to survive during the great depression. An example of symbolism is Steinbeck's use of animal imagery, which can almost be considered anthropomorphic. He then uses this technique to support some of the characters idiosyncrasies and situations. An important factor to take into account is that only George and Lennie are developed characters.
The stories the Pi tells influence his life very heavily, he selectively tells them because they are important to him. Pi also talks about religious stories. He is very involved in religion, as he is an official member of three of them. He says that they are very different in their beliefs, but they
The creature would listen to the family read, “This reading had puzzled me extremely at first; but, by degrees, I discovered that he uttered many of the same sounds when he read, as when he talked.” (Shelley 79) The creature learned the small vocabulary he left with from the cottagers. After his experience with the cottagers and after reading the books “Paradise Lost”, Plutarch’s Lives” and “Sorrows of Werter” the creature learned human nature and the rise and fall of empires, but also they reminded him of how different he was and that he was cut off from mankind. These three characters are self-educated by varying degrees and with equally outside
Every day we have a choice, to live a life of virtue or live a life of vices. Without knowing, many of us choose the path of vices in our everyday lives and fall into one of the seven deadly sins. The seven deadly sins cause people to lose touch with what is right and how to live a clean life. When reading The Great Gatsby, many of the characters show multiple sins in their personalities. The Great Gatsby is about a man named Jay Gatsby who has gained a great amount of wealth, all to try and win the heart of Daisy.
As an adult Pi studies both science (zoology specifically) and religion at colleges. These interests are both the natural extension of how Pi passed his time while he was a boy: he was the son of a zookeeper but also a devotee of several religions, seeking direct knowledge of God from an early age. All practices seek to understand the mysteries of human existence. And throughout Lee’s film we see Pi attempting to find purpose to his life that at this stage is a mystery. It is
Life of Pi is a movie about Pi, a shipwreck survivor, and his epic journey of discovery and faith. It is based on Yann Martel’s novel with the same name, and the movie, directed by Ang Lee, makes use of magical realism to convey many themes related to life and spirituality. Many significant symbols are also used to showcase the characteristics of magical realism. In particular, water and the carnivorous island were two important symbols that represented the theme of spirituality in Life of Pi.
Throughout the beginning of Pi’s life, he is told not to kill any animal due to his vegetarian values. However, in this scenario, he has no choice. Through this, Pi transforms into a
