Thurber ridiculed the American woman’s approach in reading Macbeth as well as her interpretation of Macbeth in his attire. The point that he makes regarding the expectations of reading different types of literature is that people might be hostile to different types of literature as they would consider them boring or receptive due to their unfamiliarity and stereotypes of several types of literature.

After the American woman read the story of Macbeth, she thinks that some of the characters such as Malcolm, Donalbain, Macbeth, and Lady Macbeth are innocent.
