Macbeth Character Analysis Thesis: Macbeth commits evil deeds in the play because he is a greedy backstabber and feels no empathy for his fellow man. Macbeth’s greed is made very obvious in the story based upon the quote “On which I must fall down, or else o'erleap, / For in my way it lies. Stars, hide your fires;,” (1.4.51-52).
The Tragedy of Macbeth is a well known story that revolves around the word “ambition” but this ambition isn’t always self driven by someone, but rather through the influence of someone else who maintains control of the situation. The story is about a man whose desire to be the king and have power leads to the murders of those who might stand in his way. Throughout the story we see many characters who play major parts in how one event follows another, and how some characters seem to completely have control of the events in the story. Although in Macbeth the Three Sisters and Macbeth exhibit some control over the events, Lady Macbeth has the most responsibility.
As humans, the power to control is one of the most dominant feelings that ignores the harm it can cause others. The greed for more power brings out the selfish and merciless side of someone, leading them to their eventual downfall and the destruction of everyone around them. In the play Macbeth, by William Shakespeare, the story begins with Macbeth, who is King of Glamis, and Banquo, King of Lochaber, meeting with the Three Weird Sisters to hear a prophecy they foretell. Macbeth learns he will be crowned King of Scotland and the idea of him becoming king slowly consumes him, becoming his focus throughout the play. For them to control the throne, Macbeth and his wife form plans to kill everyone and anyone in their way, starting with King Duncan

Power-hungry Macbeth Macbeth is a very compelling and twisted character to observe on a large-scale. His development as a main character can be a bit questionable as he went from relatively normal for his culture, to the point where he terrified and ruled Scotland with an iron fist. How did this one man go from waiting patiently for the crown, to going out and murdering everyone in his path to the crown? Through the progression of Macbeth’s motives, relationships, and emotions in this Shakespeare work, it can be determined that the want of power makes Macbeth into a disturbing, unreliable, psychopath.
The play, Macbeth, shows the among between sanity and insanity and the struggle between reason and delusion. Throughout this whole play, Macbeth slips into a state of lunacy slowing turning into a psychopath. The basis of understanding the play is through the first murder, King Duncan. Macbeth by William Shakespeare is a play about how greed can demoralize a person. Macbeth and Lady Macbeth’s minds were corrupted due to their lust for power after hearing the prophecies given to Macbeth by the witches. First or all, Macbeth’s lust for power was apparent when he ordered Banquo and his son’s death. He wanted to ensure his position as king would not be taken, and as the witches stated - Banquo’s sons would be king. The first evidence of Macbeth losing his mind was after he ordered Banquo’s death.

Macbeth has ambition, but his determination is not initially unveiled on his own. But is when shortly after when the witches appeared calling to him.
The elements changed have not caused the meaning of Macbeth sway from the meaning of the original manuscript. The underlying core meaning of Macbeth is the most important part of the play; this means that is the message delivered is the same it doesn’t matter the way that the message is delivered. The way the meaning has been conveyed has been changed so that the new adaptations can be used to educate people that do not understand Shakespearean English very well. For example ShakespeaRe-Told Macbeth in the Kitchen is a modernised version of Macbeth used to teach students in high school what Macbeth is about, as some students have a hard time understanding Shakespearean English.
Macbeth started off as a valiant and courageous soldier, who would do anything for the king. By the end of the play, Macbeth was a tyrant and a horrible leader who killed those who trusted him to maintain the throne. It takes many factors to take a strong man and transform him into an evil monster. Macbeth’s downfall was caused by the deception and temptation of the witches and their prophecies, Lady Macbeth’s greed and aspirations for her husband to be king, and Macbeth’s own greed, jealousy and ambition.

Macbeth is not wholly evil because of is heroism in the war, his love for Scotland, and because he didn’t want to kill King Duncan initially.
