Music of our day reflects the culture of our day; it is an expressive language of culture. It often tells a story, expresses emotion, or shares ideas with a society and the views and ideals of a country. Music is often the expression of idea, opinion, or emotion; therefore, the culture's ideas or views are almost always represented in the lyrics or style of their music. Music is very malleable and is affected by a countless number of factors; however, these factors put together equal the culture. The story draws together evidence of psychology and sociological experiences in one’s identity and focuses an emotional internal world of human interaction by the power of music. Music is an active ingredient in the organization of self, the shifting of mood, energy level, conduct style, mode of attention and engagement with the world. The author points out, “Music is a device or resource to which people turn in order to regulate themselves as aesthetic agents, as feeling, thinking and acting beings in their day-to-day lives” (DeNora 19). In her theory, it’s to illuminate music as an active ingredient in the care of the self and to introduce some of the ways in which music is employed for this purpose.
