Everyone since they were kids wanted to believe in the supernatural. It could be for different reasons some want to know that there is another life instead of just ours. They want to know that if they die there will be something after it. Some people believe in ghosts because they have had an experience with one. In the story Tim and Louise both thought they were just buying a nice house and were going to make it into a restaurant not knowing they were actually in for. Both Tim and Louise didn’t believe in ghosts but it wasn’t until Louise had a bad experience that she started to believe. One advantage is they bring people together. If you are a believer and ghosts and you are very intrigued by them then a lot of times you look for other people that feel the same and it is a great way to make friends. Another advantage is that it gives a good history lesson to people. When they see a place is haunted they read about its past see who died or why the place is haunted. In the story after Tim and Louise had enough they tried to figure out the houses history and what may have caused it to be haunted? Maybe if they could figure out the history they could fix it. The Mulderinks tried to figure out the history of the house and make the house a better place to stay. “Eager to form a link to the past, they’ve named the various dining rooms in honor of previous residents and they are collecting pictures of the families” (444). They hope that doing this will change the behavior of the ghost and how it treats the owners of the house. One negative impact on believing in ghosts is that it affects you emotionally. Some people are too scared to go to bed at night because they hear some walking above them or they feel like there is someone watching over them. It can impact a lot of people emotionally to the point where they break down. In the story Tim and Louise lost a good amount of business and employees because there place was supposedly haunted. The employees didn’t want to work there because they were scared of the ghost. Corrine was one of the cleaning ladies who worked there, but she had to quit because of what she saw and heard.
