It is obvious that the ability to lead is based on various characteristics. One component factor of being a successful leader is influence; and if a leader does not have this essence, he is undoubtedly ineffective. Influence is either a natural talent or a learned quality that can be developed over time, but either way it has a significant power that can affect the way people think or behave. I believe many influential leaders contribute a big part in both leading, adjusting the society and make it more desirable. For me, I find my inspiration from the CEO of Apple Inc. – Tim Cook. Tim Cook has become one of the top leaders for several reasons. His leadership are the keys to his successful career and Apple’s prosperity. Cook is praised …show more content…
The life of a leader is tough, but the life of a successor to the iconic Steve Jobs is even tougher. He is expected to be as good as or even greater than Jobs, thus he is usually compared to his predecessor. Cook once stated in an interview: “You should rarely follow the rules. You should write the rules”, which is presumably one of his best tips for success that he has ever conveyed. This is the reason why Apple is still developed well but in Cook’s style. This is why we perceive Tim Cook as an ideal CEO of Apple, not the secondary Steve Jobs. Not only did he define his own leadership style, but he also excels and has become one of the best leaders on the planet. By “writing his own rules”, he does not approach success in a way like any other. A lesson that I have had from his saying is: If you follow the formulated methods, the best you can get is the same achievement as others, and you will never be able to overcome anyone. To be the best in something, not just being a leader, you have to decide flexibly when to follow the common rules, when to use your own rules and never ever pretend to be anybody else but …show more content…
Apparently, being the head of a global company does not make much difference in his lifestyle. Well-known people often draw attention to them; however, Cook has always kept his personal life a secret that he is once called “The most private CEO ever”. It is hard to say much about his personal life because he reveals so little. Cook seems to be a self-effacing man with such a simple life, unlike many other famous people. As much as I know about him, he loves to go to the gym, cycle and go on a hike, and they are all very ordinary interests. Moreover, in 2014, he conceded that he belongs to the LGBT community. He does not hesitate to admit: “I’m proud to be gay”; “being gay is one of the greatest gifts God has given to me”, he added. His confirmation became a powerful motivation and emboldened gay people to come out confidently. For people who support LGBT community unconditionally, including me, we have an impetus to keep spreading the message that being gay is just natural and everyone on this planet should be treated the same, as he said. The more I learned about Tim Cook, the more I admire this influential human being. Through his quotes, his lifestyle and leadership, I learn a lot about myself and also many precious skills on how to be a leader, how to communicate with others within an association and so forth. In a near future, I hope I will have a chance to greet Cook
