Author Tim Federle utilizes inner thinking to achieve background information. This is shown in the book during the time of Sam’s Introduction. When Ms.Lee calls Sam, samantha. Sam thinks, "Gah, I hate when people don’t call me Sam, and it throws me off"(Federle 1). This demonstrates that Sam likes to be called Sam instead of Samantha. As mentioned before the author uses Sam's inner thinking to show background information. In this case, inner thinking helps the reader out a lot because the reader now knows more about Sam and her past life. Tim Federle makes the reader understand more about Sam through inner thinking.
