THE DEATH OF MERRIWEATHER LEWIS Merriweather Lewis was a national hero. He was governor of the Louisiana Territory, and was renowned by many for exploring the Louisiana Territory with Clark. Lewis was on his way to Washington to deliver possibly classified information, when he stopped at an inn. There were two gunshots heard, and Lewis was found dead, supposedly having committed suicide.
Ty Lewis ' life is not a simple one. His parents died in a car accident and his older brother, who he idolizes and tries to take after, is away finishing college. For the time being, ty must live with his aunt and uncle in not exactly ideal living conditions. He has a porta potty in the yard for a bathroom, and he scrubs toilets and bathroom floors for his Uncle Gus ' cleaning business. Things should get better as his brother Thane Tiger Lewis is about to be drafted into the NFL and come into some serious money.
A person needs to use MLA to add credibility to their work, avoid plagiarism, and to give readers references. Author Jane Pace argues that how a person sees themselves is alterable depending on their language. She specifically states that, ‘language that does exclude does, in fact, have a detrimental effect on a person’s self-perception and sense of self-worth.’ (Pace 37)
Any given reference from a book, scholarly article, or the internet will differ is subtle ways. The inclusion of multiple citations and references can be challenging and it is important to stay organized while composing writing assignments. One of the most recognizable advantages of utilizing the APA style is ensuring that the author of research integrated into my work receives proper recognition. The APA style further serves to provide a consistent base for the document style. Potential readers may then establish an individual’s proficiency pertaining to its content (Bethel University,
Meaning what do these sources say and what does the writer want to say about these sources? For avoiding plagiarism use signal phrases to introduce source material or use quotes, making sure in-text citations are used appropriately. I recommend that students show the source than get specific and show a quote, than interpret the source? And why does this information provided prove what the writer is trying to prove.
There are several trivial mistakes, including entries not being in alphabetical order and the unfortunate oversight of the page being titled incorrectly as “Work Cited” instead of “Works Cited” (Aaron 445). Formatting blunders include the omission of access dates on the two undated web sources (Aaron 469) and the entry for Sean Posey’s article “A Country Walking Dead: The Zombie as Metaphor in American Culture and Film” as the publisher and the website title are the same (Aaron 468). The film that is included on the works-cited page, Doc of the Dead, is listed as though the author saw the film in a theater, which seems unlikely as the documentary was released two years prior to the date of the essay. Of the six sources listed on Student’s Works Cited page, three are used incorrectly, and one newspaper article authored by Rick Allen is recorded despite not being referenced in the essay. Student’s essay seems to rely heavily on the two remaining sources, the Doc of the Dead documentary film and Sean Posey’s article for The Hampton Institute.
I learned that it is important to clearly state the points I plan to discuss in my thesis and use my sources to highlight my ideas or provide examples of counter arguments rather than focusing my essay around the sources. When integrating sources, I learned that it is important to clearly state your opinion and what the source does for my opinion. A good example of this is this excerpt from my Draft 2.2, “Laura Weiner provides a new stance and explains … This new take on women covering as an act of rebellion solidifies the concept that choosing to cover does not contradict feminism, while also providing the Muslim woman a feeling of strength and triumph.” I used my sources to provide the reader a new view on the issue, while solidifying my opinion.
In the article The Worst Mistake in the History of the Human Race the author Jared Diamond explains how the development of agriculture in humanity affected the evolution of our modern society for the worst. He proved this thesis with sufficient points, however, the scientific evidence behind the Luddites’ beliefs are limited. The corroboration behind agricultural advancements being a substantial step for mankind is far more concrete than the opposing side. Livestock and cultivating vegetation was the most significant switch humanity has taken, and molded our world to what it is today. Paleopathologists have recorded that the health statuses of people became critically worse after the Neolithic Period, when civilizations switched to
Lord of the Flies Essay “Human nature is complex. Even if we do have inclination toward violence, we also have inclination to empathy, to cooperation, to self-control.” Steven Pinker. Humans are naturally complicated.
In making the argument for the existence of the Law of Human Nature, C.S. Lewis first establishes the acknowledgement of a few different universal laws that man in subjected to. There is the law of gravity, in which Lewis insinuates that in the eyes of gravity, the body of man and a mere stone are one and the same. Then there are biological laws that correspond with those than an animal has. However, the one law that is specific to man and that man is free to disobey or get “mistaken”, is the “Law of Nature or decent behavior” (Lewis). C.S. Lewis uses inductive reasoning to form this kind of logic by first making the observation that even though throughout time man has seemed to have had different agreements of what they believe to be moral,
They cover a wide range of subject and topic, which help the subsidiary claim to encounter the opponent’s ideas effectively; one piece of evidence is also not based on the trustable sources. Malik takes the example of “French speakers view the world differently from English speakers” (Malik, 8) and demonstrates it within two sentences. There is no proof used in this argument. Indeed, it makes the whole essay become more unreliable, and turns the author into a bias writer. On the other hand, the author does a really “good job” on picking the solid opponent’s perspectives.
This is because plagiarism is a very serious offence in the academic world. Consequences are therefore very harsh. Students always strain to write quality non plagiarized essays so as to achieve high grades. However, writing quality and authentic essay papers is not a very easy exercise. First of all, for one to be able to come up with high quality non plagiarized essays, they have to carry our research on the topic of the essay.
Having the opportunity to write a variety of different essay styles has challenged me to improve my writing techniques even slightly. Having good credible sources was another technique I learned and improve. For most of my work, I used to go to Google, and just type whatever it is I was looking for, and usually I do not end up with that much great information. Now I start searching for information in databases because they are credible and more reliable.
Students are given a certain deadline for work that is to be handed up which will put pressure on and tempt students to find the easiest access to the relevant information needed. Students may feel after submitting their own work that they do not receive the result they deserve and therefore could tempt them to take data and information from other sources in the hope to receive a higher grade in their next assignment. Whenever a student uses sourced material, this could be either published primary or secondary material, but can also be information got from other people, it must be indicated. It entails a solid set of values and failure to comply with these standard ethics may constitute an act of plagiarism. There are several things that count as plagiarism for instant, quoting exactly from another source, any ideas borrowed from another source, all ideas taken from the internet and any ideas paraphrased from another
In contrast to that, various examples have legitimized the use of first-person pronouns in English academic writing. Also, second person pronouns remarkably demonstrate the presence of informality in any given piece of academic writing. The second person pronouns create much of a conversation than the unintended academic writing (Biber et al. 32).this is ideally because it evokes interactional skills. In some cases, writers may use the second person pronoun with a semantic reference that is wider, concerning people in general.
