1. Describe the types of conflict that seem to exist within the Bluebirds organization. What are the causes? So, in this situation presented in this chapter discussion, all three types of conflicts come about. The first one is a substantive conflict, because Russ isn’t performing as good as he should on the baseball team. He’s reserving his full potential, due to the fact that he feels under payed by Trudy. The personal conflict appears when Russ and Mickey don’t play well together on the field. Russ feels like it’s unfair that Mickey gets payed more to play than he does, so they take it out on the field and it shows with loses. Then finally procedural conflict erupts when both players are benched by Marty. He felt that neither deserved to be playing on the field because of their behavior. Trudy disagrees, she believes that they should be able to play because those are the two main players customers pay to see.

Describe the steps that you would take. The first step I would take to repair this team would be negotiating with Russ. He’s unhappy and that’s very important, because for your player to perform well they want to feel treated equal. Even if you don’t pay him the amount he wants, but he sees some sort of effort, I believe it would make a difference. Disruptive bargaining will definitely occur between Trudy and Marty as well. One will have to back down to other, and I believe it must be Trudy. She needs to recognize why she hired Marty in the first place. She should keep trust in him and his decisions, and if she doesn’t the team will see the tension there and lose trust in their owner, and management as well. After these issues are resolved, The Brooklyn Bluebirds should be a perfect example of coalition.
