This shows Atticus’ morals to do what is right and honoring to God. Although defending this man means his children would get a lot of grief
In the book, “To Kill a Mockingbird,” by Harper Lee, the author writes about what happens in the small southern town of Maycomb, in Alabama. Atticus’s diction strengthens when he says, “Gentlemen, I shall be brief . . .” (271). When he uses the word gentlemen, he obtains the jury members attention and acknowledges them. In addition, Atticus went against his moral code and principles he had always upheld before, especially in the Tom Robinson trial. Now, Atticus is faced with the decision of abiding by the law or breaking it in order to do the right thing. He knew that incarcerating a man, as withdrawn and solitary as Arthur would have been unforgivable. Especially, after Arthur had performed a great deed by saving his children 's life. He knew that exposing him would be an awful way of repaying him; it would have been like "shooting a mockingbird."

Rose creates drama and tension in the jury room, clearly exploring through the many issues of prejudice, integrity and compassion, in gaining true justice towards the accused victim. These aspects have been revealed through three character who are Juror 10, Juror 8 and Juror 3.
Atticus also says “i am confident that you gentlemen will review without compassion the evidence you have heard, come to a decision, and restore this defendant to his family. In the name of God, do your duty.” This is the strongest point that Atticus makes that alludes to the jury's sense of ethics, because when Atticus says God, it makes any of the jury who believes in a God which at that time most did it draws to their attention that Tom Robinson is a man with a family, that he is a human being and that is what God wants them to do. Atticus also uses logos many times.
