This year’s election is like no other, some people think that neither of the candidates are worthy of the White House. In the two books I believe that each author makes it clear who they would support. In the books To Kill a Mockingbird and Lord of the Flies, both of the authors have very different views; LOF author William Golding would side with someone like Bernie Sanders, while the TKAM author would side with Hillary Clinton. Golding emphasizes that humans benefit from having a structured government and being peaceful. Harper Lee fights the south's racism and strives for women's rights which makes me believe she would side with Hillary Clinton. One reason why I think that Goldings views would align with Bernie Sanders is because he …show more content…

When the kids first land on the Island, they establish that everyone is equal and that if you wanted to voice your opinion, all you had to do is hold the conch. If you were holding the conch nobody else was allowed to talk. When the kids had this system everyone was able to make contributions and make sure the correct decisions were being made. When Jack’s tribe forms they become hostile and strike, "The rock struck Piggy a glancing blow from chin to knee; the conch exploded into a thousand white fragments and ceased to exist" (181). When they killed Piggy, the kids destroyed their democracy and with that, they became savage. The time the book took place was around the 1930’s, Jim Crow Laws were in place. At this time, women were not permitted to fight and were required to wear dresses. Scout was only raised by her dad Atticus, and Atticus had views that most in the south didn’t. Atticus was a lawyer that believed in racial equality, and didn’t require Scout to abide by the social norms. Hillary Clinton is trying to become the first female president, and Harper Lee would favor her because of this. People today still think that a women can’t run this country. Lee probably wants to see these barriers broken down and see more progress. HIllary Clinton once claimed, “I believe that Women and Girls rights are the unfinished business of the 21st. Century”. Harper Lee witnessed the progression of America, through the civil rights movement and the change in women’s rights. Although there has been a ton of progress made over the past years, there is still change needed to be made. Many of Atticus’s political views reflected down onto Scout. Atticus was a very progressive man for his time and that made Scout the way she is. Scout’s Aunty lives in their house and tries to reflect what
