When a person is courageous, they are doing something without fear and without wanting anything from it. In Harper Lee´s To Kill a Mockingbird the characters in the novel show courage. The book is based in the 1930s in Maycomb, Alabama, where racism towards blacks is all too common. The Finch family that consists of Atticus Finch, the father of two children named Jem Finch and Scott Finch are experiencing second-hand racism from the people around them like Tom Robinson. Atticus is Scott´s role model. Scott looks up to him for even the littlest things. Atticus is Scott´s role model by showing how courageous he truly is.
Atticus Finch shows his courage to his children by giving life lessons no matter what people think. Atticus noted¨ if you can learn a simple trick, you´ll get along a lot better with all kinds of folks¨ (Lee 33). This evidence suppers the claim by having Atticus say the evidence to his kids. Jem and Scott are patiently waiting for there dad to come home and to hear more about the case. ¨Ẅhen Atticus came home to dinner and said they´d sent the morning picking to the jury¨(Lee 214). This quote shows, how Atticus is starting to pull all his time into the Tom Robinson case. He did not care what anyone though but, still looked into the court case like he would for any case that he was on. In the jury during the case¨’Atticus was showing the jury that Tome had nothing to hide¨(Lee 225). This supports the claim because Atticus is truly fighting for Tom. He was doing everything possible to prove that Tom did nothing wrong. Throughout this paragraph Atticus proved to the people in the jury that he was not scared of what they though of him.
