In the book “To Kill a Mockingbird” on page 30 Atticus said, “You never really know a man until you stand in his shoes and walk around in them”. This scene is a key coming to age scene for Scout. This saying helped Scout throughout the whole book. Throughout the book, Scout starts to take the advice Atticus gave her. She tries to understand people from their point of view now. This shows that she is growing up or in other words, she is coming to age. Scout starts to use the advice to understand why people feel and act the way they do. She uses this advice on many people. For example, when Jem and Scout were attacked by Bob Ewell. They were not hurt because Boo Radley defended them from Bob Ewell. When this happened Scout realizes that Boo Radley is not a monster but a very kind and misunderstood man. When Scout stood on Boo Radley’s porch she finally fully understood her father's lesson. …show more content…

She hates having to dress and act a certain way. She just wants to do things that make her happy and comfortable. Scout stated,“ I could not possibly hope to be a lady if I wore breeches when I said I could do nothing in a dress, she said I wasn't supposed to be doing anything that required pants.” This quotes show how Scout is trying to be more independent and this shows she is coming to age. Scout knows that she is different from the other girls and she knows that she will never act the way they. When Scout made up her mind that she is different, and she established her independents. This is a big scene because this shows that she is growing
