It is when you are licked before you begin but you begin anyway and see it through no matter what. You rarely win, but sometime you do” said Atticus Finch. Scout shows and learns a lot of courage of being a bright and young girl in To Kill a MockingBird by Harper Lee. She learns about courage from Jem, Atticus and Boo Radley. All throughout the story Jem teaches Scout many courageous things. Jem is Scout’s older brother who has a lot of bravery for a teenager. In all of Jem’s life he has never declined a dare. Boo is a very shy boy who is an introvert and he is considered strange in this story. This teaches Scout courage when he tried to save her from Bob Ewell who was attacking her when she was coming back from the Halloween festival after the school pageant. “Mr. Ewell was trying to squeeze me to death, I reckon...then somebody yanked Mr. Ewell down” (270, Lee). Boo Radley known as Arthur risked himself to be publicly seen after all of those years hiding inside of his house. He saved Scout and that made her feel good that Boo Radley had come to the rescue. Scout learns that she has nothing to fear over Boo Radley after experiencing his life. Atticus said “One time you never really know a man until you stand in his shoes and walk around in them” (374, Lee). He is teaching her how to have respect and how to know what is going in other people's lives. Boo Radley is the perfect example for this. He had spent over a decade in his dark, creepy house.
