In the novel To Kill A Mockingbird the author Harper Lee creates a strong theme showing how two of the main characters represent the innocence of a mockingbird. The two characters that are portrayed as sinners are accused of by men who are blinded by pride to the point where lives are taken. The virtue of Tom Robinson is displayed throughout the course of this story. For example, a witness from the audience at Tom Robinson’s trial speaks out and announces, “I just want the whole lot of you to know one thing right now. That boy’s worked for me for eight years an’ I ain’t had a speck o’trouble outa him. Not a speck.”(195). Mr. Link is making a stand for Atticus and Tom by doing this, something no one else has done. He is the person that looks past Tom’s color and employs him for the person he is, truly showing he is trustworthy and has a good heart. In addition, Tom sats to Atticus and the jury, “ Yes suh. For instance, “...insects splashing against the screen were Boo Radley’s insane fingers picking the wire to pieces…”(55). Scout is thinking this because she views Boo as if he is a monster. Although what the kids were doing behind his house was unacceptable, Boo never seeks revenge, he actually helps them by folding the pants of Jem that were left behind stuck in the fence. In contrast, “Atticus was right. One time he said you never really know a man until you stand in his shoes and walk around in them. Just standing on the Radley porch was enough.”(279). Scout uses her imagination to try and view all the past events that have occurred through Boo’s eyes. When she does this she realizes that Boo isn’t a bad person at all, he is actually kind of like a guardian angel. Boo Radley’s character proves a great point that we should never judge or assume things about another person that we know nothing
