In the novel, we meet Tom an African-American man accused of raping Mayella, a young white women. Atticus is appointed as Tom’s lawyer and this is Atticus’s closing statement. Atticus claims that there is no real evidence to convict Tom and he has done nothing wrong.
In the argument between Mr.Gilmer and Atticus In to kill a mockingbird about Tom Robinson being found guilty for raping Mayella. In Chapter 12 of Harper Lee’s, To Kill a Mockingbird, there are many events and situations in which irony is used to support the theme of the chapter. An example of this is in the very beginning of the chapter, when Scout is concerned about how distant and moody Jem is acting, and asks Atticus, “’Reckon he’s got a tapeworm?’” (Lee 153), to which Atticus replies no, and that Jem is growing. This is dramatic irony because the readers understand that Jem is acting oddly because he’s growing, but Scout doesn’t know this until she asks Atticus about it. To Kill A Mockingbird Literary Analysis Throughout To Kill A MockingBird, by Harper Lee there are many acts of courage. This is shown in Atticus Finch, Jem Finch, and Boo Radley. Atticus shows the most courage in the book but all three of these characters show true courage in some way, shape, or form. Boo Radley showed a lot of courage, but he was not in the storyline as much as Atticus. Throughout To Kill A Mockingbird, courage is defined as standing up for people and doing what’s right.
Throughout the novel, To Kill a Mockingbird, Harper Lee makes use of the first-person narrative by using Scout Finch. She starts out as a six-year-old girl who cannot fully understand what the older characters mean when they speak. This can make the novel quite comical or sometimes frustrating. Although Harper Lee using Scout as the first-person narrative throughout the story gives the readers a first-hand look on the events, her age makes her naïve of some of the crucial events which does not allow the reader to fully understand what happens. In the novel Scout Finch makes some comments which may make the reader question her as a credible source.
In society, there are very few people who have the unwavering dedication to stand up for what they believe. In the novel, To Kill a Mockingbird, a black man was convicted and accused of a crime he didn 't commit, raping a white women, which is not in anyway tolerable in society. In Harper Lee 's To Kill A Mockingbird, the author used point of view and symbolism to acknowledge how the the several social divisions which make up much of the adult world are shown to be both irrational and extremely destructive. To begin with, the short story To Kill A Mockingbird, used point of view to show how the many social divisions in the world are irrational and destructive. Scout; a first grade student at the time, was telling the story from her point of view and what had occurred from her childhood perspective.

The testimonies reveal how deep-rooted the racism within Maycomb runs, as it is present even in court rulings and how casually present it is. The court is taking place, and the order of prosecutor’s witnesses who are: Mr. Heck Tate, the sheriff; Mr. Bob Ewell, Mayella’s father; and Mayella Ewell, the one who is accusing Tom Robinson of raping her. When it’s Mr. Ewell’s turn to speak, he does so with many racial slurs and slang embedded in his accusations. When relaying what he saw to the jury, he points at Tom and yells “―I seen that black n*gger yonder ruttin’ on my Mayella!” Mr. Ewell, who, although, has never been a part of a court case or viewed one, doesn’t truly care, or notice, that so far into the formal case, not one person has used racial slang to talk about Tom, and uses the term n*gger quite casually.
Oh gosh, there they are again. Surely to God, they don’t think I’m trapped in this house of my own accord. Don’t they see... Don’t you see! Maycomb, please, see!

The three goals she is trying to achieve are to teach empathy, promote a theme and to get the readers to predict what will happen next in the novel.

Chapter 03: Summary and Analysis The novel is divided into two parts where the first part has eleven chapters and the second half has 20 chapters. Introduction to the Story The story started with a childhood incident of Jem, the brother of Scout. The scout narrates that the elbow of the Jem badly got hurt when he was 13th and it was a frightening incident for him.
In the beginning of chapter 10 in To Kill a Mockingbird Scout is talking about Atticus, he is in his fifties. One day Scout and Jem asks Atticus why he is so old. Atticus says he started life late. Scout is saying how Atticus is not like all the other parents at Scout and Jem’s school. Scout says that he works in an office and he does not work at places like the other parents do.
