During my three days of shadowing, I learned so much from Cassie about leadership, volunteering, and being a role model. I never realized how much hard work Cassie puts into her daily life with having a title and working two jobs. In To Kill a Mockingbird Atticus Finch said, “You never really understand a person until you consider things from from his point of view-until you climb into his skin and walk around in it.” That quote holds true for Cassie. To the casual observer ,Cassie seems to have a normal teenage girl's life; however’ by walking in her shoes’ I found that not only does she work two jobs and attends school full- time, she puts in what is basically another full- time job in preparing for Teen Miss United States. This has shown me if I really want something I have to be willing to make sacrifices and put in time and effort to achieve my dreams. The first day of shadowing Cassie started early as we ventured to Cooperative Christian Ministries, also known as CCM, to volunteer. CCM is a nonprofit charitable organization located in downtown Hickory where local families in need come to receive food on a monthly basis. On the way to interview practice, Cassie and I had a conversation about her platform, and she said to me: “What seems like a small act of kindness to one can make a huge difference in the life of another.” Cassie is planning to spread her platform nationwide with the title of Teen Miss United States. To be Teen Miss United States, Cassie must prepare for the most difficult area of competition, interview. Cassie meets with the former Miss All Star United States, Rebecca Stewart. For interview Cassie must study current events, her platform, and everything about herself. Then Rebecca, posing as a judge, asked Cassie a series of questions to insure she will be ready to face the real
