The story of To Kill a Mockingbird takes place in an Alabama town known as Maycomb. The time period that the story is being told from is during the depression. The primary setting of the novel is the Finch household where all of the true lessons that scout learn happen. Another group of major scene happens at the creepy old Radley house, where danger is presumed to be around every inch of it. The last of the Major settings would have to be the old city’s courthouse where Atticus tries to defend an innocent black man from the destructive force of racism.
PLOT

At the start of the novel Scout is an innocent little girl but as the story progresses, she is introduced to a plethora of new evils. Scouts brother Jem is the next main character, he is Scouts older brother who, like Scout, is very innocent when it come to the reality of the world and is thrown into it harshly. Jem is a bit more daring then scout is but still has his own fears. Lastly there is Atticus, Jem and Scouts widowed father. Atticus is a just man who believes in equality and manors. Atticus takes on the job of defending Tom Robinson even though the community consists of strong racism and prejudice. Even with all this going on he takes the time to teach his daughter and son what is right and what is wrong.
TONE
The tone that To Kill a Mockingbird holds is a peaceful, and a calm life story tone . The Novel maintains for the majority of the story a light-hearted and calm experience, but there are some exceptions to this, such as the time they traveled to the Radley house. This created an on edge feeling while you read. Then there is when the mob was confronted at the jail where Scout tried to defuse the issues.
