To What Extent Did Hamlet Really Love Ophelia

In the play Hamlet by William Shakespeare Hamlet and Ophelia's relationship is touched upon many times throughout the play. In the beginning Hamlet and Ophelia were dating and the readers are told that they are in love but continuing through the play others manipulate the relationship enough for both characters to take on a huge toll. Hamlet really did love Ophelia and she loved him back but with others influence on their relationship matters take a turn for the worst.
In the beginning of the play readers see how Ophelia's family has already put in their say on how they feel about Hamlet. Claudius, Hamlets uncle now father, and Polonius come up with a plan to figure out why Hamlet is so upset so they send Ophelia to go break up with him because they want to see if she is the one making him upset. While hamlet is walking the corridors debating with himself if he should live with lifes hardships or if he should commit suicide he spots Ophelia. Ophelia immediately tries to give back his things that she has being her way of ending things. Hamlet says "No, not I. I never gave you aught." (III.i. 97-98) She says the he know he did because there are love notes and gifts that he has given her. This is the moment Hamlet realizes that he can no longer trust his girlfriend who he loves. Even though during this exchange he insults her because he is hurt he admits that he did love her once. In the movie the viewers see how Hamlets facial expressions show how hurt he is and how he changes throughout the scene from meeting Ophelia, where he is happy to see her, to the end where he looks betrayed and hurt because of what happened.
