People change over time. This has been shown throughout history by the changing ideals of men and women over the centuries. Even though people change some of the issues that are faced today are similar to the issues faced after the Civil War. During the Civil War the purpose of the war switched from preserving the union to slavery. The war that caused families to be torn apart was a war over the rights of people, the power of the government and for the future of the United States.
The rights that were fought over was battle concerning the freedom of African Americans. The South’s economy depended on slaves to help produce cotton. Without slaves the economy of the South would collapse and would lose a large portion of their revenue. The wealthy southerners had become entirely dependent upon them.

Instead of being one indivisible nation people now complain how things are handled by police and other groups. America is becoming a nation divided over trivial maters and people ignore the important issues that are around them.
Instead of caring about other people, others care more about themselves than anything else and refuse to help others. The Civil War was a large group of people fighting for what they believed in under two separate banners and because of that war it created the country we have today. Ralph Waldo Emerson said, “There is no limit to what can be accomplished if it doesn’t matter who gets the credit.”
Both of these times involve struggling for people’s beliefs. The difference is the cause of why people are fighting for these rights. In the past it was because of the injustices done to groups of people and fighting for the future of the nation they cared about. Today the problems that occur are simple matters that have little to no effect on the lives of the people who live in the United States of
