Who Is the most responsible for the death of Gatsby? Tom could be the most responsible due to the spread of false accusations and information, Daisy may be the most responsible because she ran over Myrtle which started the chain reaction, or is it Wilson who purposely shot Gatsby in the head? Each of these characters had something to do with the murder of Gatsby. The Great gatsby is a story that was narrated by one of the main characters Nick Carraway. Earlier in the book Nick moved from the Midwest to West Egg to help himself financially. We immediately learn that Nick is related to Daisy Buchanan who is currently married to Tom. Later in the story Nick attends one of Gatsby’s amazing parties. Nick finally meets Gatsby after seeing him do peculiar things outside his house at night time. Nick starts to realize that Gatsby is a reputable host. Through out the book Nick and Gatsby get closer as does Nick and Jordan. One of Gatsby’s biggest dreams was to get together with Daisy despite her relationship with Tom. All the parties that Gatsby threw were all to impress Daisy. But my the end of the book all of Gatsby’s hard work did nothing but kill him. Daisy was one of the three people responsible for the death of Him. Subsequent to Gatsby’s death, Nick stood up and arranged Gatsby’s funeral since all his other friends decided to act like they never cared about him. After Wilson had found out that his wife was murdered he was on a hunt to figure out who was responsible. Wilson had asked Tom if he knew anything about the situation. Tom told Wilson “I’m a friend of his… He says he knows the car that did it.... It was a yellow car. “ (F. 150) Tom explained to Wilson that Gatsby was the owner of the car but not the fact that Gatsby wasn’t the one driving. Tom told Wilson enough information that would not put his wife in harm but turned Gatsby into the offender. After the conversation with Wilson Tom and Daisy decided pack up and leave town. Nick who is Daisy’s cousin, tries eagerly tries to get in contact with his Daisy but they purposefully do not answer. Nick tells the readers “She and tom had gone away early that afternoon, and taken baggage with them.” (F. 164) This quote proves that After Myrtle and Gatsby were murdered Tom and Daisy left so that the would not get questioned by police because they know they are guilty. People who have not committed a crime don’t run. Later in the story after Tom and Daisy comeback from where they were hiding, Tom and Nick have a conversation that leads Tom into saying “ I don’t care what happened to Gatsby… He deserved it” (F. 178) For someone who claimed to be such good friends with Gatsby saying that He deserved it is extremely low.
