The poem begin with Tom Petty using an exciting tone. He couldn’t wait to move to Hollywood. He met a girl that taught him how to play the guitar. When the move in together. He found a job as a bouncer. He made a record and went in the charts. He Bought nice clothes and partied with movie stars. However, by the end, Tom Petty used a clueless tone. When his A&R man said “ I didn’t hear a single”. He became a rebel without a clue. Finally, Petty’s description of Eddie’s rise and fall is realistic. He left home after high school. A lot of kids want to leave home after high school. He met people that became friends. Everybody meets different people but here and there they become your friends. He got a job at his new place. There is jobs everywhere just gotta find it just like he did. His rise and fall as a musician. A lot of people with a successful life goes downhill suddenly. The story of the life of Eddie is portrayed with a changing tone in a realistic way in Tom Petty’s poem “Into the Great Wide Open”. The story of Eddie could be compared to that of Le’Veon Bell.
