The trial brought up included Tom Robinson, Mayella and Robert Ewell, Heck Tate, and Atticus Finch. Heck Tate and Robert Ewell were the witnesses for Mayella’s side and Atticus was the lawyer to Tom Robinson. This was such an important trial, whether the event actually happened or not, because Tom is a black man and Mayella is a white woman. The evidence provided shows that Tom most likely did not rape or beat Mayella, but her father was the one who could have beat her.

Atticus is a courageous man and is also a good influencer to his kids, Scout and Jem. He teaches them that everyone matters in this world no matter how different someone can be. Imagine living in the 1930’s when court systems were biased and innocent men were sent to death. Throughout To Kill a Mockingbird, we the readers see the trial of a black man, Tom Robinson. We see how this case affects Atticus and his kids, the town of Maycomb, and most importantly Tom Robinson. In To Kill a Mockingbird racism affected Tom Robinson, Atticus Finch and Scout Finch in very distinctive ways.
Not to mention, he takes the case without outwardly pleading it is a hopeless cause. To show, Atticus defends Tom Robinson as he would defend any white man, and makes it his civil duty to do this man right. Coupled with Atticus’s personal beliefs, he never shows regret in his obligation to Tom Robinson and his family. In another instance, Atticus respected these citizens even before the case. Though the residents of Maycomb did not agree with him, Atticus stuck to his belief all men are created equal.
In the novel To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee, the story is set in the 1900’s, Maycomb, Alabama. During this time there was racism in the south and segregation which separated the whites and blacks from everything. There was also the Great Depression, the whole country was poor and people living in the country had to trade and do other jobs for people to either pay them off or to buy something from them. The trial in this book is about Mayella and Bob Ewell, two white people, claiming and arguing that Tom Robinson, a black person, raped Mayella Ewell. This trial is really important because at that time in the south, white people took advantage of black people and their kindness and thought they would take that or shut up just because they were black.
The Tom Robinson trial that occurred during the summer of this year was a result of an accusation of rape against Robinson by the Ewell family. According to Sheriff Heck Tate’s testimony, he was called to the Ewell residence on the night of November 21st. He found Miss Mayella Ewell beaten up and sprawled on the ground. “Found her lying on the floor in the middle of the front room, one on the right as you go in”(190). After questioning by Robinson’s lawyer, Atticus Finch, he stated that despite Miss Ewell’s injuries, a doctor had not been called.
Racism is an issue America has had difficulty solving for quite some time now. While its influence in the present day is significantly reduced, it still has its presence even then. For as long as African Americans have been in America, racism has had a gloomy presence in its society, and To Kill A Mockingbird reflected and challenged a system of racism back in its time, especially towards its black community. To Kill A Mockingbird mirrored its racism to its real-life counterpart and used a character to demonstrate how this was wrong.
How did prejudice happen in this world that God made? Prejudice is an unfavorable opinion or feeling formed beforehand or without knowledge, thought, or reason. In this world, there are a lot of prejudice. Prejudice doesn´t happen suddenly but it happens from a root. Everything happens from a root and that causes to be or do something.
Even if there was something they could do that would help someone in the slightest way they would do it. Sometimes, knowing they weren 't going to succeed, they still did their best to help. The three mockingbirds are Boo Radley, Tom Robinson, and Atticus Finch. Together, these three characters represent the three main characteristics of a Mockingbird; protection, innocence, and goodness. Boo Radley is a mockingbird because he represents the protection that mockingbirds display.
