The poem “Annabel Lee” by Edgar Ealan Poe is about a beautiful yet painful memory. "Annabel Lee" tells the story of a lovely, heartbreaking memory. The poem's speaker recalls his long-lost love, Annabel Lee. The speaker knew Annabel Lee when she was a little child, and they both lived "in a kingdom by the sea’’(2). Despite the fact that they were just children, these two were madly in love. Even the angels in heaven noticed and were jealous of their love. So, the angels sent a wind that killed Annabel Lee. But death will not be able to keep him apart from Annabel Lee. Because angels couldn't separate their souls, he is still connected to his youthful love. The narrator says even angels and devils couldn't achieve it because he can still see her in his dreams and in the skies. We first see this when the speaker says “ But our love it was stronger by far than the love Of those who were older than we Many far wiser than we”(27 - 29) . Their love was pure. Even though they were young and didn't know much, their bond was stronger than that of those who were more intelligent and wiser than them. We also see this when he says “ this maiden she lived with no other thought Than to love and be loved by me I was a child and she was a child”(5-6). They had no thoughts other than their affection for one other. They were also quite young, and their love had blinded them. Finally, we observe this when he says “ Nor the demons down under the sea Can ever dissever my soul from the soul Of the beautiful Annabel Lee; For the moon never beams, without bringing me dreams Of the beautiful Annabel Lee” (24 - 269).
