Tony Nicklinson's Argument Against Euthanasia

A fair majority of people would consider euthanasia to be right in many different situations. As for Reg’s situation he is paralyzed from head to toe, you wouldn’t understand the pain and suffering he has to go through on a daily basis. He is incapable of taking care of himself, and needs constant assistance by family and loved ones. Everyday, slowly by slowly, the disease just starts to squeeze the life out of him.

a.) The first example of someone that would consider getting euthanised is someone who is suffering with a severe disability. Tony Nicklinson, 58, suffers from locked-in syndrome, which he was diagnosed with following a stroke on a business trip. He says he has “no dignity left”, and he has wanted his life to end since 2007. Tony can’t do anything as he is paralyzed, and suffering from many things for example he says “'I cannot scratch if I itch, I cannot pick my nose if it is blocked and I can only eat if I am fed like a baby - only I won’t grow out of it, unlike the baby.” Tony cannot do anything except think about the worst conditions he goes through. I believe that Mrs. Crew should support her husband in dying with dignity.
This is because Reg is 72 Years old, he is paralyzed and he will die in a year or two. His death will be painful and will be a very long and excruciating process. A process in which is unfair, and can be resolved, due to euthanasia. I believe that Reg should die with dignity, and it should be a decision of his own. The longer Reg waits to wither away, the harder it will be for his family; each day that they see him in pain, will take a toll on them. Not only is this unfair on Reg, but others around him. The solution? Euthanasia.

Mrs. Crew is a Christian and in the bible Exodus 20:13 it states that “Thou shalt not murder”. When breaking down the process of Euthanasia, you see it is technically murder, but what some don’t understand is it is a pleasant process. If Mrs. Crew really did care for her husband she would let him die painlessly, and happily. It is his body and he has the right to chose what he would want to do with
