The movie Top Gun takes place at the Miramar Naval Air Station where the best of the best go to train. Flying partners Maverick and Goose were given a chance to go to Top Gun due to a lucky situation. By far the most intriguing character of this movie is Maverick(Tom Cruise) every trait Maverick has is realistic to any pilot in his twenties going to a school for the best of the best. Maverick is a very cocky pilot who enjoys pushing the limits and having fun. Maverick is not only out going in the air but also down below as he ends up wooing his instructor Charlie(Kelly McGillis.) After his incident that caused Maverick to be on his own, i feel really opened the move to different possible endings not just the same old boring, predictable ending most movies include. Goose was never seen as a main part of the film in my eyes, i just thought of him as Maverick’s sidekick. Goose was cut short before being able to show the audience his true meaning in the movie causing my opinion of him to be lackluster. Especially due to the fact that so many characters were beautifully incorporated leaving little room for Goose to shine. Goose in the movie is only made relevant because he is Maverick’s sidekick. Goose was a character with an important role, yet he did not seem that important in the film, which is where the actor got it wrong on how to play the character. When Goose was gone Maverick was still able to Succeed, but if Goose portrayed himself as someone Maverick could not live without, when Goose left the audience might feel more sympathy towards Maverick on having to fly without someone he trusted and someone who was so important to him. A positive i saw from Goose was that he showed how much he tried to protect Maverick from becoming too outgoing, and you can clearly tell Goose is looking out for his
