With the 19th century having a strict control over women and their roles contributed to the author's writing the two stories. Women had to live up to Patriarchal codes. Patriarch is where the men is the Supreme authority, meaning he controls everything. It causes conflicts because women were limited of their equal rights and did not have much of a say so. Seeing them as just housewives and not being able to come out as they please caused the women to go into postpartum depression.
First of all, in this short story, there clearly is a stereotyping of the woman. Indeed, the women seem to be lumped together and all assigned to the same role. For example, they are the one who are taking care of the children (“[The women] began to call their children […]”) and the author gives them few stereotypical characteristics, like the fact that they like gossiping (“[The women] exchanged bits of gossip […]”). Comparative Essay Thesis- Throughout both of these stories, there are ideas and elements that are shared between the two, such as similar themes, and the same point of view. However, there are also disparities that are prevalent within the stories, like the setting and how much the reader knows. Both of these stories describe the similar narrative of a wife murdering her husband, due to him treating her bad. This sets up a theme of sympathy, or understanding for the killer in both stories, as they only kill them because they were treated so badly by their husbands.
Gender plays a very crucial role in both of these stories. In Trifles, the men were criticizing Mrs.’s Wrights work and kept complaining about how dirty her kitchen was. When Ms hale tried to defend her, the attorney’s respond by saying, “Ah, loyal to your sex, I see”. Both women, Mrs hale and Mrs peters were very agitated by how the men were talking behind Mr’s Wrights back and when they found the quilt and asked if she was going to knot it or quilt it, the men were laughing at them. Also, when Mrs peters told the men that Mrs. writers was worried about her fruits , the sheriff responded by saying how a women is held for killing someone and the only thing she is worried about is her fruits.
S.E. Hinton the author of The Outsiders feels optimistic about the lives of teenagers in her community. For example, after being found Ponyboy and Johnny left the church not knowing what was going to happen in the future. On the ride home they noticed the church engulfed in big orange and red flames, the boys not caring what happened to them went “ through a window and pulled myself in.” (Hinton 91)S.E. Hinton showed this is what she thinks the teenagers in her community who may be “hoods” if given a push could do something this big. S.E. Hinton explained the main idea around the book was adults don’t understand us, teenagers, today, with which I agree with.
Both of these short stories demonstrate disappointment and inexperienced innocence. While comparing these two stories, notable similarities include the naiveness of the narrators, the untouchable feel of the female interests, the setting of which these stories take place, and how the narrators experience an epiphany in the end. The themes of these two stories are no strangers, as they both include a sudden, misguided
“Ex boyfriends are just like off limits to friends. I mean that’s just like the rule of feminism” (15:15). This famous saying said by Gretchen Wieners from Mean girls is widely known and most of the time ridiculed by people. Mean Girls is a movie that portrays the stereotypical American high school life. The movie has a main focus on the girls of high school, rather then on the boys.
By examining the gender stereotypes that Tom believes to be true in The Adventures of Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain, the reader can understand how those beliefs shape Tom’s interactions with females throughout the book, by causing him to try to guard and comfort girls, which in turn improves their view of Tom. One day in class, Becky Thatcher tears a page of the schoolmasters book, and she begins to worry about being whipped for the first time at school and Tom thinks to himself, “What a curious kind of a fool a girl is! Never been licked in school! Shucks! What’s a licking!
The main difference is that women are seen as an object and not as people. This is due to the unfaithfulness of both of the king’s wives. I found it brutal and unreasonable how the women characters in the stories are treated. The woman was clever in managing to survive in a society where women were not valued. The structure relies on her bravery and cleverness.
Similarly, Disney’s Cinderella presents a cruel and ambitious stepmother who attempts to arrange marriages for her ugly, foolish, and somewhat comical daughters. In the film, we see their miserable attempt to sing opera, (supposedly in order to appear more feminine) as the mother proudly oversees. In one of the last scenes, she desperately urges them to make the glass slipper fit, and while she doesn’t downright tell them to cut off their toes or heels as in the original (Grimm 119), the comic scene in itself seems to have a subtle layer of tragedy. While these examples prove that female ugliness in fairy tales and their adaptations corresponds to wickedness, and the latter is equivalent to ill-temper, the question of female independence still
Gender roles have been noticeable in Disney films especially the Disney Princess series. Women are typically portrayed as a princess, homemaker, or queen while men are portrayed as strong, dominant and authority characters. The portrayal of the prince or knights in the movies usually highlighted with the strong and powerful characteristic, whereas the Disney princesses are weak, vulnerable and being protected. According to Tiffany, gender stereotypes and behaviours illustrations are very common in Disney culture and their depictions have become sophisticated over the years especially those of female characters.
Gender Stereotypes in Cinderella Fairy tales are read to children at a very young age. In today society, many children believe fairy tales are real which reflects negatively on children. The story of Cinderella is widely known across the world with many different versions of this folktale, which portrays gender stereotype throughout the tale. The controversy stemming from the 1973 landmark case Roe v. Wade, which legalized abortion in all 50 states, has been a frequent topic throughout American history and politics. For many years, this has caused the nation to be split between those who are pro-life (against abortion) and pro choice (for abortion) with reasons ranging from religion versus a woman’s anatomical right to her body. In recent years, the federal right to abortion for women has been overturned by the Supreme Court Ruling of Roe v. Wade in which limits women from getting an abortion at early stages along with allowing states the right to choose to ban abortion. The effects of this ruling have been tremendous as in 2022, nine states have officially banned abortion while
