To start, Odysseus shows traits of being an epic hero because he is a vast traveler, a great warrior, a national hero, faces supernatural foes, receives supernatural help, and lastly is capable of deeds of great strength and courage. To add on, Odysseus is a vast traveler because he has traveled to lots of different islands such as, Troy for the Trojan war, Kalypso’s island, Cyclops island, the Lotus Eater island, Circe’s home, the underworld, and many more. He shows bravery and courage when going to the underworld to help is crew turn back from pigs into humans. “The Odyssey” points out that, “Odysseus rushes to save his men from the enchantress” (Homer 15). Moreover, it was said that Odysseus went to Circe’s home to rescue his crew but Circe wouldn’t give his crew back unless he went to the underworld for a prophecy, which Odysseus did because he did not want to leave his crew behind if he could save them. Additionally, although there are traits that prove that Odysseus is not an epic hero like his lust, poor choices and decisions, he proves that he is because of the journey he takes for 20 years. Over the years in this journey Odysseus demonstrated that he faces supernatural foes and is brave enough to fight against them. To illustrate the story shows, “ So with our brand we bored that great eye socket while blood ran out around the red hot bar” (Homer 9). This information conveys that Odysseus fights supernatural foes, is brave and courageous, and is a great warrior because he and ____ came up with a plan with his crew to defeat the cyclops (Polyphemus) and escape from his cave. All in all, Odysseus does classify as an epic hero if we compare him to the traits that make a person an epic hero, although he makes rash decisions everybody isn’t
